A Bride by any other name | pixels on paper bridal portraits

… is still as sweet and will always be the focus of her wedding day, at least for part of it. People will remember the dancing, the toasts, the goof-ups and sweet moments, but her entry happens one time and all eyes are on her. Maybe this is why bridal portraits are so important. You get more than one look at her in her dress and in a meaningful setting that will last forever in prints and on film. We photograph weddings pretty much all year, but wedding season is really summer. As this summer rolls along, I looked back at some bridal photos that we’ve taken over the last decade. I realized how it’s true that every bride – like every baby – is beautiful. The gown, the setting, the glow are all offshoots of the glorious woman about to start a new chapter. Brides – we celebrate you!©2016 Pixels On Paper Photographers. http://www.pixelsonpaper.net Do not copy, crop, or remove watermark. photo

They are classical, modern, some want to be princesses, some want to look like photographs of their grandmother, one incorporated book pages into her bouquet, others repurposed brooches or lace or another memento, some seem like complete originals and others timeless. Capturing that is the fun part.

Consider a bridal portrait along with your wedding photography package as a way to experience a “trial run” before your wedding day. It’s a perfect way to try a new hair style and see how your makeup will look. It’s also a fun girl’s day with Mom, your best friend or maid of honor. The setting and season can be totally different from that of the wedding and the environment and timeline is typically much more relaxed giving us extra time to capture those magazine style covers you’ve dreamed of. Sometimes the session is for Mom to have the large portrait of you that she wants to display on the wedding day and then for years to come in her home to share with loved ones and friends. We are happy to help you plan and create the vision of beauty that defines you as a bride.

Madison’s NC Mountain Outdoor Bridal Photos

Madison Ball (Madi) married her sweetheart Preston Roberts 2 days ago. Yep! They are brand-spanking newlyweds! We’ll share those as soon as we can, but let’s start with Madi’s bridal portraits we took on May 27th in Glendale Springs and Jefferson, NC. Beautiful day, beautiful girl, beautiful gown – all of it was picture perfect. This was a fun shoot for a number of reasons. Madi was excited on this day. She was dressed as a bride for the first time completely and the trial run was sort of her first opportunity to feel all bride-y. She was practically jumping out of her skin.

Secondly, this young woman is an only child, which I “get” entirely. I am one too and watching her mom get chocked up during the session took me back. Her mom shed tears multiple times and made me think about my own mom – how critical that relationship is and how much we’ve shared and will share in the years ahead. I loved watching them relate as bride and mother of the bride – that mix of unbridled excitement and nostalgia.

He’s a great guy and their engagement portraits and the questionnaire they completed for us showed how in sync they are – and how funny. Here’s to many, many great years ahead and to gorgeous summer brides.

Autumn Outdoor Bridal Portraits at Leatherwood Mountain Resort

Just a few weeks ago, we shot another June wedding. Katie Vance married Patrick Carlson at Leatherwood Mountain Resort. We photographed Katie’s bridal portraits on November 4, 2016 at this very same spot. Katie wanted photos at Leatherwood both in the fall as well as in the summer to show off the various scenic views. Katie chose it to showcase the opposite. She is more princess than country bride and loves to sparkle. Even the Vans she wore with her gown had purple glitter on them. Katie grew up in Boone and loved being in the glorious mountain views that surrounded her all year. She loved how the mountains could be so massive and still be charming in the details. Her challenge to us was not to photograph the farm’s rustic style but instead to capture the more elegant natural surroundings. We were happy to oblige. Kendra’s Outdoor Bridal portraits in a historic setting in North Wilkesboro NC

It’s wedding season, y’all. It’s wedding season, engagement portrait season, bridal portrait season …….. it’s summer! Here’s more proof: Sweet Kendra Green Bell married her beloved Nathan just last weekend on May 20th. We shot their fun engagement session at Piccione vineyard and these bridal portraits. She was as alive and glowing as the landscape and it was a pleasure to capture how radiant she was on this day.Kendra Green Bell Pixels On Paper Photography Wilkesboro NC Bride Bridal portrait photoKendra Green Bell Pixels On Paper Photography Wilkesboro NC Bride Bridal portrait photoKendra Green Bell Pixels On Paper Photography Wilkesboro NC Bride Bridal portrait photoKendra Green Bell Pixels On Paper Photography Wilkesboro NC Bride Bridal portrait photoThe setting for this session was a relative’s historic 100+ year old farm and property in North Wilkesboro NC in late March of this year. Kendra loves the southern charm and old world style both outside and inside the home. And this wine and Avett Brothers lovin’ girl had the elegance to just float beautifully in the shots we took inside the house and then the boldness to stand in a cow field and outside an old grain silo for a few of the outdoor shots.

Kendra seems to the manor born, doesn’t she? She is so pretty, comfortable in herself and in this place, it was a perfect setting to get portraits of her before she became a wife. We cannot wait to show you those wedding pics in the coming weeks.

We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs, engagements and weddingsbrides, and special events and portraits  of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

the girl is the thing……

©2016 Pixels On Paper Photographers. http://www.pixelsonpaper.net Do not copy, crop, or remove watermark. photoAt weddings, the couple is the star, …. but that’s kind of “the party line.” Honestly, the bride – the girl/woman/goddess/angel really does soak up a whole lotta limelight and that’s a good thing. As we gear up for months of bridal portraits and weddings, we wanna celebrate brides. Happy faces, gorgeous gowns, smiles, tears, tiaras, veils, friends, sisters, moms and details. It’s all good, but the girl is the thing.
