Looking back at 2023

We are diving head first into 2024 but not before completing a blog post that recaps the photos of our client’s and friends from 2023. We continue to feel incredibly blessed that so many each and every year trust us to photograph and capture the most important memories of their lives. We met some amazing people, felt like a part of so many of these people’s lives, and more often than not were right there along side of them having just as much fun. We gained numerous friendships last year. 2023 brought senior portraits, family portraits, newborn photography, photos of children, pet pics, and commercial photography both in our studio and out and about on location. We are inpatient when it comes to figuring out what 2024 will bring and excited about the photographs we will capture and designs we will create

The following are a few of our personal favorite images from some of those we photographed in 2023. Enjoy the view!

We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs newborns and families, special events and portraits  of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

MBI – Beech Mountain Public Works Commerical Photographer

When MBI Builders calls, we say, “where do you need us?” We’ve loved taking commercial photos of their work over the past decade and Ryan is our point person on these shoots. They recently asked for Pixels to get images of The Town of Beech Mountain’s Convenience Center, a public works project that MBI completed, and beautifully we might add. Ryan met up with Dustin Serrano, of Serrano Film Co, who made it possible to get some excellent drone footage of the entire facility and buildings as well.

The Convenience Center includes warehouse space, a recycling center, office spaces as well as large garage areas to keep maintenance equipment organized and stored.

There are large wash bays for vehicles and equipment, areas to sort and recycle card board and other materials, roll up dumpsters for easy deployment, and bays for salt that is stored for the winter when roads will need it.

Other projects that we’ve captured for MBI Builders include Lake Norman State Park, a custom home in the Blue Ridge Mountain Club, the Procor Industrial project and many more. Like the others, the work is exceptional for the scale of these projects. Congrats to MBI and the Town of Beech Mountain.

MBI Builders – Lake Norman State Park Architectural Photos

There are seasonal campers, hard core orienteering types who are climbing rocks and frozen waterfalls, glampers who want to get out while being conveniently IN, and those who wouldn’t be caught dead in the woods. Most of us just want to get away and, with the spring and summer coming, there are places to retreat that look quite appealing no matter your stripes.

Introducing the upgraded amenities at Lake Norman State Park! Ryan was recently asked to shoot pro images for MBI Builders of this project of theirs. As usual, MBI delivered beautiful work for their clients with solid wood beam construction, and an eye to the end users.

Some details about the project, include:

  • These are new cabins in the Family Camp Circle section of the park.
  • MBI built around half a dozen 2-room cabins around the site. Each have heat and A/C as well as power and water hookups for RVs.
  • These also feature a pad for parking, a picnic table and fire ring.
  • MBI also built a large bath house that is a shared facility for all campers, as well as both men’s and women’s sides with restrooms and showers. All are handicap accessible. There is also a family restroom facility with the same amenities.
  • There are additional tent sites or car camp sites around for those who prefer to be closer to Mother Earth.

We love commercial projects and have worked with MBI Builders for years. If you would like to know more about Lake Norman State Park’s new upgrades, check out this link.

Pixels On Paper Photographs MBI Builder’s Custom Home

Ryan took the lead on this shoot as these are definitely in his wheelhouse. MBI Builders has engaged Pixels for commercial architectural photography before and we love that they want to have us capture images for their portfolio and website. They do beautiful work, so we try to represent that. The proof is in the pudding.

This is a custom design build home at the Blue Ridge Mountain Club. The views, the architectural details and materials speak for themselves.

Merlefest Memories Part 2 – the music

Merlefest 2020 would have started tomorrow, April 23rd and Ryan, Finley and I would have joined our official photographer pals and hundreds of others who love music to celebrate. Wilkes County fills up with vendors, fans and of course, some of the best bluegrass, blues, indie, folk and country singers and musicians in the nation.

The line-up of musicians each year is impressive to say the least. For 2020, this was true too. Sadly, on April 7, 2020 one of the most beloved musicians and performers around, John Prine, passed away due to Covid-19 – the very reason there is no Merlefest this year. Prine was on the schedule to perform and we were all looking forward to it. Other famous performers included the Avett Brothers, the Steep Canyon Rangers, Willie Nelson, Alison Krauss, Sam Bush and many more from years past.

What began as traditional Appalachian style music that Doc Watson and son Merle just exploded in both interest and talent. The festival benefits Wilkes Community College. If you want to learn more, I would encourage it.

We also want to encourage everyone to consider a gift this year too, since costs were incurred gearing up for the 2020 lineup, set up and coordination. To donate to Merlefest, visit the site.
