Newborn Photos of Baby Bowman
This little bundle wrapped in hunter green is Bowman and he was born to a wildlife enthusiast and sportsman father and outdoor loving mom. His name has special meaning and we’re pretty confident that he will grow into it. Our recent shoot with this family was unique and a lot of fun. Put a teeny new creature in the midst of outdoor gear and elements and the juxtaposition is magic.
We photographed parents Kendall and Nathan’s engagement portraits, her bridal session and their wedding, so when they called to talk about the birth of their first child, we jumped into action.
Knowing his name in advance (yes, I can keep a secret) allowed us to plan his shoot as Kendall was busy creating his nursery. She was keen to have browns, blues, grays and other earth tones in his nursery and at our shoot and we all worked to make that happen. The results are epic, creating a sense of the 19th century West, Teddy Roosevelt, hunting lodges, campfires and the wildness of being outdoors.
His delivery was a fairly easy one, so at one week old, he came with his hunting gear and his parents. Mom and Dad brought antlers, but also a nod to their ASU alma mater. We love a shoot with a theme, even subtle, but this one was truly about this kid and his parents love of the great outdoors.
Sweet Bowman, we hope to capture some images of you in years to come with a bow and quiver of arrows. Or just come by our studio and tell us about your adventures. We’re all ears and love you already.

Our Foundation part 3 – newborn baby portraits
At Pixels, we’ve been revisiting the foundation of our photography business, and so far I’ve shared the wedding and bridal portraits that were the beginning. It’s funny, because in some ways, they happened in the same order that life does. Weddings and then kiddos. This blog is a round-up of baby blogs . . . newborns, first birthday cake smashes, meeting new siblings, outdoor portraits. We LOVE BABIES!!!!!!! [And you have to say that like a crazy grandma from the South….. BAAAY-BEEEEEES!!!!!]
The newborn category will bring any person with a pulse to their knees. These little creatures are a reminder of both fragility in life and HOPE. Pure potential, perfect skin, projected attributes all end up assigned to these images and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pets & Babies – Photos of Life
I feel like I’m in a little series of sorts – about life vs. posed photography. Just recently – casual family portraits and more about day in the life sessions.
Don’t get me wrong. I love weddings. But more and more Ryan and I are enjoying the Not Formal. So today, it’s about dogs and babies. Or pets and kids. We’re flexible.
Can’t we all just agree that dogs and babies – pets and children generally – are the tonic we need these days? Can you count on them to pose? Nope. Can you count on them to want to wear something that they don’t want to wear? Not really. Are both pets and children happier running around naked? Welllllll…. yes, generally. We aren’t endorsing the nude approach, but we do want the photos we take of your pets and your Littles to be honest, real, endearing and fun. There is time for posing your kids in their later years. For now, let’s celebrate asymmetry. Let’s enjoy a little unstructured time and play and let’s get it on film.
That’s our Chelsea (“she said, trying not to sound like a bragger”) catching a ball mid-air. I know….. she’s fab.

A Brand New Girl | Newborn Pictures of Penelope Jo
Penelope Jo was born February 28th at 4lb 12oz – a miniature gift and one month early. While small enough to put in your pocket on the way to grab lunch, she was completely healthy and discharged before her mom. I KNOW. “Look out, people!! I’ve got stuff TO DO!!” At only 8 days, Whitney and Preston brought this little jewel to our studio for their first ever photo shoot as a family of three. She took my breath away. How can something so teeny pull your heart out of your chest? But she did and I was only the latest. Her parents and grandparents are doing all they can do not to gobble her up.
We photographed Whitney and Preston’s engagement and wedding and watching them gush over Penelope Jo was incredibly sweet. She may be the smallest newborn I’ve photographed – both adorable and beyond cooperative. In fact she was so good that I didn’t want to stop photographing her as she slept peacefully. No matter what props or positions we put her in, she would bend like a reed and as cutely as possible. 
I have no interest in wishing this little girl’s life to fly by – especially with that little tutu and headband – but I’m anxious to see her and photograph her often and watch her grow up. So much satin and sweet, so much cool and composed. She’s a little dream.

How lucky you are, Cameron. You can’t imagine the love that was surrounding you on this day. They say that newborns are near-sighted and mostly focused on mom’s eyebrows and forehead, so you will indeed have to take my word for what you couldn’t see. Behind my lens, you laid there in complete coziness, but you were not alone. So much of your family’s journey was floating around me. From seeing your mom and dad newly married and in love to capturing that couple with a baby on the way and a new daughter and now you. Your timing was perfect. Welcome!
Even your feet were in love with each other. They kept smooching.
Your sister Madelyn came to the shoot and we’ve photographed her growing up too. While we only see your family a couple of times a year, we always look forward to it. And now here you are. This may not always be the case [Secret: siblings can get on each others nerves, but it usually ends well. Keep that in mind when Madelyn boots you out of her room in 10 years.], but right now, you are the apple of her eye. Your sister adores you.
You are a precious being, Cameron and I’m adding my name to the list of fans to go along with your mom, dad and older sister. Come see me again soon, please and take sweet care of yourself. You’re at the very beginning!
