Summer Weddings – We’re Ready! Are you?

Summer is a busy season and we aren’t even there yet. When there is so much green out every window of our homes and cars, I think about the brides and grooms (and their parents) who are gearing up for what they plan to be a massive milestone and celebration: a summer wedding. Look at Whitney & Preston – above. They are downright charging toward the future. And for us – the near future is about the outdoors and watching others say, “I do.”

Outdoor summer weddings are a favorite because we live in a gorgeous state and green is indeed everywhere. There are trees, barns, lakes, casual settings, arboretums, and fresh flowers everywhere as backdrops and set dressing and couples always seem to become more fresh and lively themselves.

Each of these couples decided that being outside in warm climates was the right choice for them – even at the risk of weather. And these were some of our best days as wedding photographers. If you are just starting to plan your engagement, we hope that you’ll contact us about engagement photos, wedding plans and any places or themes that excite you. We would love to be a part of your day!

We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs, engagements and weddingsbrides, and special events and portraits  of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

Late Summer | Photos of an Outdoor Southern Wedding

Engaged couples everywhere: If you’re planning a wedding for summer of 2018 (or spring or fall, for that matter), take note. This couple did it well, or as we say in the south – did it right! Alex Sohl and Dan Goldman brought family from all over North Carolina and Kentucky to their outdoor wedding at River Run Farm in Banner Elk, NC for barbecue, dancing and vows in a gorgeous setting. The day, the ceremony and the details were outstanding. If you’re looking for ideas and inspiration or just a smile for the day, check out Alex and Dan’s July 29th wedding.Pixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoAlex’s entrance was beautiful. Everyone was assembled in a stand of trees and it felt like country weddings from another time… when two families would come together on a farm, gather to watch the exchange and then sit down to dine together. It was casual and incredibly sweet.Pixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoThe key ingredient for Alex and Dan was for everyone to feel comfortable and to enjoy the day. There was no fuss, no pomp, just a lot of people playing games, chatting, dancing and enjoying the late summer eve.Pixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoFun and games was their theme – brilliant idea – and everyone had a blast gabbing and competing and getting to know each other. The bride changed her dress and after walking up from the river, everyone enjoyed the barbecue and danced. Their send-off with bubbles and applause was a perfect ending. Many happy returns you two!Pixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoPixels On Paper Photographers River Run Farm Banner Elk Valle Crucis NC Sohl / Goldman Outdoor Mountain Wedding PhotoThe vendors for this wedding were superb and to help those of you planning, here you go!

august wedding anniversaries

August sometimes gets a bad rap. It’s hot; it’s the end of summer; it’s back to school time (“AND ALL GOD’S CHILDREN YELLED: NOOOOOO!!!); it’s buckle down, “we’re done with the beach for a while” time for families and we all start slouching toward fall. But really, it’s a pretty great month. It’s transition time and it always feels to me like there’s elbow room between summer and the cooling temps and tasks that come with autumn. It’s also the month Ryan and I got married. Our marriage stands up in August and says, “yes! Another year, peeps!” In that spirit, it’s time to wish our couples who were married in August a very Happy Anniversary! You’ll notice two faces below who were mere babies when they got married in August of 2003.
We’ve loved being a part of your journeys, watching your grow, have kiddos and enter new phases of life. We raise a glass to us all.

We join this month’s anniversaries celebrating 14 years of marriage on August 2nd. Photo ©Laura Auman Photography

Happy Anniversary – Wedding Portraits of Celebration

Author and environmentalist Rick Bass has a great quote about the seasons of life:
“My life, I realize suddenly, is July. Childhood is June, and old age is August,
but here it is, July, and my life, this year, is July inside of July.”

Erica & Mark Makowski, 7 years July 2nd

For each of these couples, in their year, in July, they were in the beginning of their new lives. Childhood was June. But they were entering the July inside of July.

Anna & Jordan Isaacs, 6 years July 9th

Elizabeth & Chris Bankett, 8 years July 11th

Jessica & Jason Clinton, 1 year July 16th

Precious & Damon Murray, 9 years July 18th

Lila & Joseph Duke, 6 years July 23rd

From Jessica and Jason, who were married in 2016, to Precious and Damon who’ve been married for 9 years, we hope that for the best and longest Julys in their lives. August can wait. Keep celebrating. Keep enjoying each other. Keep planting and harvesting, knowing how loved you are. Happy Anniversary, all of you!
