Rylee Raynor Newborn Photos

This late summer brought a new life to Chris & Jess Raynor. Rylee Kathleen arrived on September 26th. All babies are beautiful – at least the ones we’ve photographed. Rylee is a cutie-pie. We’re long-time pals with her parents, so we got time to hang out, catch up and snuggle her to bits. Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC studio newborn portrait photographers Raynor newborn baby photoPixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC studio newborn portrait photographers Raynor newborn baby photoPixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC studio newborn portrait photographers Raynor newborn baby photoPixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC studio newborn portrait photographers Raynor newborn baby photoPixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC studio newborn portrait photographers Raynor newborn baby photo
We’ve known Chris and Jess through the Charlotte sports industry for a very long time. We photographed their engagement,  their  wedding and were glad that they took us up on our offer for free newborn photos. We offer this to all of our wedding clients.
Rylee was about as perfect during her session as a newborn can be. She knows how to rock the pink and her nursery is filled with mint green, coral, pinks and lavender. Her nursery also contains a large photo from Jess’ wedding bouquet that we photographed years prior. We used that as inspiration for all the backdrops and props. The result is girlie at its best and just so much fun to shoot.

Pets & Babies – Photos of Life

I feel like I’m in a little series of sorts – about life vs. posed photography. Just recently – casual family portraits and more about day in the life sessions.
Don’t get me wrong. I love weddings. But more and more Ryan and I are enjoying the Not Formal. So today, it’s about dogs and babies. Or pets and kids. We’re flexible.

Can’t we all just agree that dogs and babies – pets and children generally – are the tonic we need these days? Can you count on them to pose? Nope. Can you count on them to want to wear something that they don’t want to wear? Not really. Are both pets and children happier running around naked? Welllllll…. yes, generally. We aren’t endorsing the nude approach, but we do want the photos we take of your pets and your Littles to be honest, real, endearing and fun. There is time for posing your kids in their later years. For now, let’s celebrate asymmetry. Let’s enjoy a little unstructured time and play and let’s get it on film.

Orchard Portrait Photos – Spring in the NC Mountains – time to book!

Arnold family outdoor spring peach orchard photos by Pixels On Paper Portrait Photographers photoAs the exclusive photographers at one of our favorite places – a nearby orchard – we look forward to gathering there with families, couples, prom goers and the like to capture them among some pretty gorgeous blooms. Yes, March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, but at some point during that crazy change-over, this orchard is magic. The weather can and does affect it but we stand at the ready to photograph.

To see the kinds of photos we’ve taken in previous years – have a look! And gang, it’s time to book. So consider this your official reminder and contact us to schedule your session.

our children – photos of the 21st century community in the making

We don’t preach politics from this blog. We don’t preach, period. Our core values, we hope, show up in our work and the way we live our lives. Even if we weren’t parents, the loss of the lives of children is a heartbreak like no other. I cannot imagine racing to a schoolyard with Ryan to wait to see if our kid emerged from a building…. if Finley James would appear on a list later to be read at a memorial. And I’ll just stop there. Our prayers have been sent to Florida since we heard the news last week and my mind wanders the way a new mother’s does when kids make the headlines…
We want, with this particular blog post, to celebrate children. They will forge and become the true 21st century and what community feels like. They may wriggle around, or show shyness, diffidence, disinterest, be squirrelly, silly or just distracted during portrait sessions, but WE LOVE taking photos of children – of all ages. [Our apologies to the teens in this blog who are cringing at the “children” header.]

Here are some favorites from over the years that spring to mind.Amelia turns one. First Birthday. Child photography, children photo

One of the greatest joys really is watching from behind the lens as kids navigate all phases of life. I look at each of these faces and can remember the photo session, but also the child/kid/baby/graduating senior and how she or he was that day. I especially love knowing that I’ll see some of them again … older, wiser, goofier, figuring whatever of life’s puzzles is in their lap that day.

God’s gift of Finley to us has heightened this for me as a photographer. Any of those kids could be Finley and all of these kids could have been in that school in Florida. They’re all precious. They all deserve our love and care and it’s a distinct pleasure to be the one to make sure their families have portraits of them to remember each precious moment.

Love Your Mama! | Celebrating Motherhood

No matter what it looks like, motherhood is profound. Mothers declare – with this first amazing act of carrying a child and then giving birth to it – that they will forever share their food, put their immediate needs aside, hold their child’s head above the rising water, look for sacred lost things, and provide comfort, perspective, structure, laughter, physical and emotional affection, joy and support till the very end.

I’ve heard that a mother’s job is to be a witness to whoever your child is and turns out to be. They are not you, just of you. Kahil Gibran, said that right? You are the bow and your child is the arrow being shot out into a world ready to be discovered. What gets them out there into that wide world armed with humility, confidence and strength is steady mother love.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mom’s out there. If your mom is still with us, call her, take her to brunch, go for a walk with her, invite her over and cook her a meal. But most importantly, tell her thank you.
Morning Song
Love set you going like a fat gold watch.
The midwife slapped your footsoles, and your bald cry
Took its place among the elements.
Our voices echo, magnifying your arrival. New statue.
In a drafty museum, your nakedness
Shadows our safety. We stand round blankly as walls.
I’m no more your mother
Than the cloud that distills a mirror to reflect its own slow
Effacement at the wind’s hand.
All night your moth-breath
Flickers among the flat pink roses. I wake to listen:
A far sea moves in my ear.
One cry, and I stumble from bed, cow-heavy and floral
In my Victorian nightgown.
Your mouth opens clean as a cat’s. The window square
Whitens and swallows its dull stars. And now you try
Your handful of notes;
The clear vowels rise like balloons.
