meghan and jeremy’s charlotte wedding | big chill reception

Jeremy and Meghan were married on what turned out to be the hottest day on record in Charlotte, a measly 106 degrees. That did not put a damper on the wedding day though, like true champs they both pushed through and we were able to capture stunning photographs of the amazing couple even in the outside heat. The ceremony was held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in uptown Charlotte, and was a great blend of traditional and loving family touches. Both Meghan’s brother and father sang solos during the ceremony completely filled with emotion that brought chills. Family figured in other places as well with their nieces as flower girls and their nephew as ring bearer. When the ceremony concluded, just prior to the big kiss, the couple were greeted by a bag piper in the aisle who was there as a surprise for them as homage to their Irish background. Once outside the church, in lieu of a late night exit, the celebration continued as they were greeted by family and friends with pompoms in the wedding colors of purple and gold.

The wedding party ventured over to The Green park next to St. Peter’s to wrap up photos before heading over to the Big Chill to start the wedding reception. Tyler Lee with the Big Chill knows how to put on a well-executed reception and with the wedding party primed, the party began. Personal touches were everywhere, from the marriage license of grandparents on display, to lots of family photos around the room all the way to the table settings that continued the Irish theme with the Celtic Knot as table numbers. Meghan’s parent’s had several surprises for the newlyweds, including having a congratulatory message for them on the marquis of the restaurant next to The Big Chill.

From the moment that Jeremy and Meghan stepped onto the dance floor for their first dance, we knew that this was going to be a fun and beautiful night. The love they have for each other spread throughout the room among their guests.

One last touching moment came late in the reception when Meghan’s father and brother along with a family friend were handed microphones and began to serenade the couple with the best impromptu “Carolina on My Mind” ever sang. For having had only a few minutes of practice together, the group was right on point and left very few dry eyes.

Somehow Meghan and Jeremy’s amazing engagement photos escaped a blog post. It’s a must that their UNC Chapel Hill portrait session get some attentions since it was nothing short of breath taking. Check out these photos that we captured of the two love birds on and around their old stomping grounds, the UNC Chapel Hill campus.

We wish Meghan and Jeremy all the best in life, and a huge congrats!

thomas and jennifer’s charlotte wedding | st. mary’s chapel

Who knew something as simple as knowing and being fluent in another language could lead to love and ultimately a fabulous wedding?

Both Jennifer and Thomas were born in Germany to US military parents stationed overseas, but never met until after they moved back stateside. It was a chance meeting in a bar one night where Thomas overheard Jennifer claiming to know German and tested her on it. Just over three years later in the intimate Saint Mary’s Chapel in Charlotte NC, they said their vows in front of family and friends from near and far. As the ceremony concluded, a bag piper was on hand to lead the couple out of the Chapel and into their married life.

The ceremony and reception were filled with details that Jennifer and Thomas spent a lot of time making themselves. We love when couples put their own touches on everything from the programs, to the chapel door decorations and an homage to their German heritage with the Jeep they drove to the reception in being decorated on the front and back with flowers.

The day was personal to the two of them all the way down to the entrance into the reception. Since Thomas is such a HUGE Star Wars fan, the entrance into the Maggiano’s ball room was through a Marine’s style crossed light sabers tunnel created by their bridal party. The Star wars theme carried over to the cake topper as well with the figures of Han Solo and  Princess Leia representing them.

It was amazing to see two families that had not had much time spent together having such a good time. It was as if they had known each other for a long time. From our perspective, seeing how seamlessly the conversations could go from English to German depending on who was speaking, was wonderful. That only helped the party get going and the dance floor stay active all night.

One final detail that we loved being a part of, was the last dance of the night with just Jennifer and Thomas alone, not only alone on the dance floor, but in the entire room with the exception of us photographers and the DJ. It was such a great moment to be a witness to, and something that helped top off the night in a special way. After the last dance it was off to happily ever after through the sparkler lines of family and friends.

Congrats to Jennifer and Thomas on a wonderful day and marriage!

bailey and phillip’s charlotte wedding

Fortunately for us another one of our awesome wedding couples, Erin & Brad spoke very highly of us in regards to their own wedding photos and referred Bailey our way nearly a year ago. Every minute spent with Bailey and Phillip since our first consult has felt like time spent with old friends. We’ve laughed together, teased one another, and even bonded over Bongo their dog during engagement portraits, bridal portraits, and the wedding day. I’m pretty sure we were looking forward to their wedding almost as much as they were and were anxious to see all the details finally come together. Not only did Bailey and Phillip treat us like old friends but even Bailey’s parents made us feel like part of the family. To be so well taken care of and attended to throughout the 12+  hour  day is by no means necessary or the norm.  But it sure does make us feel appreciated and grateful to be a part of such a significant moment in the families lives.

These two are crazy in love and are perfectly made for one another. In all their fun wackiness they perfectly compliment each other. Beyond a doubt we know they are going to be happy for the rest of their lives and are sure to make everyone around them happy too.  Congratulations Bailey & Phillip!

Enjoy these wedding photos which represent the irreplaceable moments and memories we were privileged to capture. And be sure to leave some LOVE for this happy couple. Our blog loves comments!

kirsten + nate {wedding pictures} | creative photography by pixels on paper

Kirsten and Nate are one of the most down-to-earth, easy-going, nicest couples we’ve had the good fortune of photographing.  Getting to know them over the past year has been like a reunion with old-friends. They are totally in to each other. Every time Nate looks at her you can see the love and how much he wants to be her everything.  And Kirsten always has the huge smile and big laugh whenever with Nate you can see that he is her happiness.  Oh how lucky we are to see these love stories unfold into true life and capture the images as they go along.  We look forward to seeing their marriage grow and to whatever photo sessions we get to capture during their future journey.

Rachel Samuelson and her coordinating staff at the Holiday Inn Center City Charlotte took care of everything for Kirsten and Nate’s outdoor wedding with a rooftop ceremony and ballroom reception (a great decision made the day of  to move inside due to thunderstorms that arrived mid-reception).  The pace and high-energy party was orchestrated by the awesome skills of Bethany McDonald of All The Right Grooves.  Its still exciting for us to be in middle of everything capturing wedding pictures that are going to tell their story for generations to come.

Congratulations to the newlyweds! We are happy to share their wedding photos with you.

Despite the rain at the end of the night, these two were determined to get a shot with the Charlotte skyline!  Also view their engagement photos or view and order more wedding photos on our proofing site.
