Unless you are a rock star party thrower or professional event planner (and we know plenty of both), the biggest party of your life is probably going to be your wedding.
When in your life do so many people who love you gather to celebrate you? Seriously. Think about it. And they don’t all know each other. YOU ARE THE REASON they’re there: relatives, coworkers, college buddies, favorite teachers, high school teammates, childhood besties, neighbors, your parents’ friends and new friends you’re inheriting because you’re getting married all show up to celebrate you ………… and party.
We notice unexpected meetings and connections at every single wedding we photograph. It never fails. Two or more people are seated together at the ceremony or the reception and the only context they have to connect them is you. And then stories are swapped, jokes are told and there are moments of “oh, so you are THAT Jennifer!” or “you’re the gramma who sent the box of banana bread during exams.” Your childhood babysitter sits next to your college roommate and sparks fly! Just kidding. Well,…. maybe… But the point is, this is not a rally with a cast of thousands and it’s not your retirement party 40 years from now. It’s a blow-out love fest for you and your beloved.
We’re not going to throw shade at amateurs. Your friends and family are going to take their own photos anyway. Wedding clients tend to search for locations that will do two handfuls of things really well, AND be easy to get to AND have great views, catering options, a Plan B space and all sorts of other amenities and accommodations. Take a thoughtful look at the Holiday Inn City Center Charlotte. This may be exactly what you’re casting for.
We want to see the sky, but be cool inside for our August wedding. Is that possible? Does the venue have rooms for everyone and places to gather between events? Can we be inside for the ceremony and then walk a short distance and be outside? Are there things to do around the venue? Can we dance underneath the stars at our reception?
Yes – to all of those. Charlotte is a big place, but you can gather those you love in one single spot and celebrate. Engagement portraits – highlight reel for 2015!
Famous poet, satirist and wit Dorothy Parker once said, “creativity is a wild mind and a disciplined eye.” And to that, we say, “YEP.” Over the last 12 months, we’ve photographed many engaged couples (they weren’t just smiling at each other; he put a ring on it!) using their input, their vibe, family wishes, instinct, experience and our own wild minds and disciplined eyes.
While not every shot conveys adventure, we’ve trekked through woods, waited on the light, tried many angles, changed venues, waited on the weather… you get the idea. You’ll notice that every single one of these portraits (including Kendall and Nathan above) was taken outside – which says a lot about our clients and about us. Nature provides options that an indoor studio simply can’t. So here’s a mini highlight reel of sorts – abbreviated to be sure, but some of our faves.*

Below are two of the sweetest: Sarah and Danny. Like all of these couples, they were relaxed and game for whatever we asked them to do. Here are rest of the engagement photos and wedding pics.
There’s something about the shot below that is just so tender. These two, Amber and Andy, are down-to-earth, so maybe that’s it. We literally put them in the grass and captured what exists between them – love and anticipation. We’re going to repeat ourselves, but…… we LOVE THESE GUYS. More engagement and then the wedding.

While Sharae and David’s wedding was in downtown Charlotte, we still managed to get them outside on a greenway for the engagement session. We love the textures and colors in this shot, but mostly it’s them smiling. That particular engagement shoot was hot, but fun and their glass ceiling wedding was spectacular.
And finally, there’s Whitney and Preston – our “When Harry Met Sally.” We took photos of this pair in quite a few locations for their engagement session. Love them and love their history. See more of their gorgeous wedding at Williams Farm.
