Christmas Portrait Sessions 2019

Whether at home or in our studio, we’re still booking portrait sessions for the holiday season. If you want to come to our already decorated and glorious portrait studio, please be in touch!

We change it up every year, but the organization and ease on you is the same! You’ll be cozy and won’t have to do a thing at your own home.

Holland Christmas 2017

If you want to have your portraits for the holidays taken at your home, we can make that happen too and it’s NOT as huge a deal as you might imagine. Just call and ask us about dates and times that are still available. The setting can be tidy and a bit more formal….

…. or you can relax at home and just be together in your space, doing your thing. The only exception is that you don’t have to be behind the camera. You can read books, decorate or have an all out free for all. We don’t judge. We just capture!

As time runs out for all of us this season, be in touch before it’s too late and we’ll do our best to accommodate your tribe! Can’t wait to hear from you.

For more, here’s our reasoning behind this season’s portrait offerings and pricing!

We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs, engagements and weddingsbrides, and special events and portraits  of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

Christmas Portraits at Home | The Pierce family

We believed, when we proposed the idea of taking Christmas portraits at client’s homes vs. set dressing our Pixels studio, that it would be a success. It would be fun, if not funny, magical and tender and, most critically, it would WORK. Well, the proof is in the pudding. We discovered this at the Pierce’s home earlier this month. Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC documentary lifestyle photographers Pierce Family In home Christmas PhotosPixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC documentary lifestyle photographers Pierce Family In home Christmas PhotosPixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC documentary lifestyle photographers Pierce Family In home Christmas PhotosTraci and Andy Pierce have let us photograph them numerous times over the years, most especially their sweet boys Holden and Sawyer. But on December 2nd, I went to their house to shoot Christmas portraits more as a documentarian than a portraitist and I loved every sweet little second of it. You never know what’s going to happen in the studio or on locations and I certainly wondered about this “big idea” of mine as well, but it was everything I hoped for.

Holden wanted to zip his Dad’s shirt and read him a story. Traci and Holden had a conversation about their new house and why they left their old house. The whole family wrestled together and little Sawyer watched his big brother dance around pointing out ornaments on the Christmas tree. They were just little moments, but it’s exactly the “slice of life” I was hoping to get as the onsite historian. It turns out, they can! After a half hour, they all go on about their lives and are naturally interacting with each other. I got to breathe, watch, aim, shoot and solidify moments that would have been lost otherwise. It’s a photographers dream and so rewarding. Even after many years in the profession, it felt wonderful.Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC documentary lifestyle photographers Pierce Family In home Christmas PhotosPixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC documentary lifestyle photographers Pierce Family In home Christmas PhotosPixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC documentary lifestyle photographers Pierce Family In home Christmas PhotosOur lives aren’t perfect. Often they’re perfectly messy. They’re filled with clutter, unmade beds, scattered toys, half empty cups, to do lists, don’t want to lists, nose prints on windows and tooth paste on mirrors. But all these things make up our lives. It’s real, it’s us, it’s family, it’s life. Having that picture perfect family portrait is great. But having photos of real life also has it’s place in our lives and our memories. These recent photos amid the trees and holiday lights are the precursor to something bigger for Pixels On Paper Photography. Starting in 2017 we’ll be photographing A Day In The Life sessions. Documentary style photos of you and your family in your environment and every day life. I want you to see your life, your family and the everyday moments you share in a whole new light. We all need a different perspective and we all could use a little more reason to appreciate the lives we have been given no matter how messy they may be in real life.

We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Christmas Portraits | Welcome Home

Misty 1976

We’re doing something different with our holiday portrait sessions this year. We’re bringing them home. As in to YOUR home. It’s where you live and it’s where the magic and memories live too. Photographs tell the story and evoke all the memories of the season even as they are frozen forever in that specific time. It only made sense to take your family portraits in the place you call home.

Misty 1978 – Gifts for my girlie AND my rugged side.

Let’s be honest: isn’t half the fun of old family photographs saying, “remember that couch? remember that carpet?” Or “that was our first year in that house and you insisted on having a mini-tree in your room.” Every family on earth looks at past Christmas photos and has these conversations, in reverie and laughter.

Misty 1981 – future Merlefest attendee and Official Photographer, thank you very much!

Ryan 1982 & 1986 with brothers and sister. LOVE the pjs. Sports, super heros and Little House on the Prairie.

Place matters, but so does family, so here’s the origin of this idea: We’ve had holiday portrait sessions at our Pixels indoor studio for years with great success, but this year, I could never settle on a theme I liked. Thinking through it all now, God was definitely showing me why. I wasn’t listening or obeying what he was leading me to do. Finally, about a week ago and after much discussion with Ryan and some fear, I listened and obeyed. I sent an email to a client who has always participated in and anticipated our Christmas sessions. Here’s an excerpt:

Because you inquired early regarding information about Christmas portraits and we’ve photographed yours for years, I’m writing to share my idea for Christmas photos. For us, this year has been hectic, challenging and rewarding all at the same time. Through it all I’ve been very reflective and God has been incredibly forthcoming in showing me direction and insight all along the way both in my personal journey and the path of our business. I want all the work we do to be done with intention and relevance.
Nothing is more important during the holidays (or anytime for that matter) than family. When trying to create the concept for this year’s Christmas theme “family” and “home” continued to resonate in my mind. I wanted a way to create a personal experience for each of our clients, so my resolution is to offer in-home Christmas sessions.
I want to capture families gathered around trees with handmade ornaments, trees where all the fragile ornaments are at a height away from little fingers, stockings are personalized and tree toppers are those that have been passed through generations. I’d love to capture children in their Christmas PJs while they show me an ornament they made at school. Children years from now will recognize their surroundings in a photograph. What it looks like is different for every single one of our clients.

holiday portrait season is here ~ pack friends, family & make your appointment

Perhaps you’ve noticed that the anticipation and celebration range for holidays has gotten longer, while the holidays themselves are the same. (Please say “yes” or we’re going to have to worry about you.)
Halloween: one day. Preparation begins just after Labor Day.
Thanksgiving: one day … with Black Friday and Cyber Monday hovering like an avalanche of “door buster” circulars. Preparation begins the day after Halloween.
Christmas: one day. Preparation begins the 4th of July. Kidding, but you get the idea.

Well, it’s the first week of November and there are cards to create and gifts to buy and we want to gently tap your shoulder and tell you that it’s probably time to book your session with us. We love the holidays and we want them to be special. Our 2015 studio is ready to go for portraits of families, couples, groups of friends, your babies or kiddos in primary school or those home from college, fur babies or all of the above. We believe in the abundance theory, so the more the merrier.
