Introduction to Pixels on Paper – Pt. 1

Ryan and I have such a loyal group of clients and followers, that we feel like people already know who we are and what we do. For those of you who perhaps do not know us, please allow me to introduce myself. Pixels on Paper captures milestones and memories through portraits, helps small and large businesses with commercial photography, branding and design, and covers both personal life events as well as public events.

Portrait Photography

We started with weddings nearly two decades ago, but soon loved that the photos that come before and after a big milestone are just as precious. So Ryan and I shoot images of newborns, 6 month and first birthday portraits, images of siblings and families as the kids grow, senior portraits, prom and graduation portraits.

Maternity

Some of my favorites portrait sessions are those where I’m capturing expectant mothers. Ask anyone.

Families & Day in the Life

As a couple, we are all about our family and our extended families, so we understand – even emphasize – the importance of getting professional family portraits taken over the years. Children grow up fast, family reunions are planned and need commemorating and sometimes, just a trip to the park needs documenting.

We are never happier than when we’re behind the lens, in natural light, mixing it up with new parents and new babies, big families, couples in love or “about to be graduates.” Regardless of season, we are photographers. Heads up for our next blog about the more commercial work we do for businesses, entrepreneurs and communities.

We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

Newborn Baby Tibbett Photos

Walker Tibbett deserves The Oscar for his performance as Exceptionally Cute and Perfect Newborn this year. That – or he really is a perfect child when having his photo taken. This little creature smiled when he was asleep and smiled when he was awake. He loved being snuggled and wrapped and could not be easier to fold, handle and photograph.

His parents, Brooke and Joey, have been clients of ours before and bought the one year baby package after we captured their engagement, wedding and mom Brooke’s maternity session. Brooke loves earth tones, and prefers them to “baby” images or cartoons for Walker’s room. Her palette is specific and really pretty and photographing Walker swaddled in blues and greys, creams and camels was as easy as it’s ever been. I loved every.single.second!!

Mom and Dad wanted to let Walker be the star of the show. If you know me at all, though, you know that I encourage parents to be a part of at least one of the shoots we do. Brooke and Joey are such a great couple and new parents deserve some attention too. We’ll see how I do getting them to pose in Walker’s 6 month portraits…

The Look of Love – Photos of Parents

While I’m in the “focus on love” mood that I’m in, I’m moving from couples to parents. These are some of my favorite types of photo shoots. I love taking newborn, 6 month and one year baby photos. What make these shoots even more special is knowing that I’m getting photos of parents that they would never get on their own. The looks on their faces as they really take in their child are just priceless.

Before they’ve said their first words, we parents are already projecting qualities and stories and hopes onto our kids. But in these moments, they are such pure potential.

As parents, we know, you guys. We know how quickly time passes and how children – especially babies – change daily. If you’re expecting a newborn or want to gather your family pod for a portrait session, Pixels would love to make that happen.

Newborn Annabelle

In my many years of photographing newborns with their brothers and sisters, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen a sibling so great in this context. These two little snugglers below are Penelope and her new sister Annabelle. Parents Whitney and Preston are long time clients of ours (and yes, have become our friends) and we loved welcoming them to our place for Annabelle’s first portrait session.

Penelope was so teeny when she arrived that we could fold her easily into her father Preston’s law enforcement hat! The same was not true of new Annabelle, who is so squishy and squeezable. She’s just a big bundle, it’s no wonder her big sister loved getting to pose with and cradle her.

We love watching these families grow, especially when we’ve seen the very beginnings. For us the beginning was 2015, when we photographed Whitney and Preston’s engagement session. We also were their wedding photographers, and captured little Penelope’s newborn portraits in 2017. We feel like this family’s Milestone Documentarians and love it. It’s an honor that Ryan and I do not take for granted.

Hosting this wonderful family we love and respect so much at our place to grab outdoor family portraits and studio newborn photos was an absolute pleasure, and we cannot wait to watch these girls grow up (not too quickly) in the shadow of their loving mom and dad and the village that supports them. Welcome to the world, Annabelle.

Newborn Baby Gracelynn

Gracelynn is a new citizen of Planet Earth. First time parents Caitlin and Matthew Triplett brought her to our studio, along with first time grandparents – all socially distancing and crying. It’s part of the gig… taking pictures and watching happy tears. Tears are welcome, you guys, I mean it. If there was ever something to celebrate in a time of uncertainty, it’s new life.

This perfect little girl barely slept during the session, and while that can sometimes be an issue with babies who cannot get comfy easily, Gracelynn was just as eager to be cozy and camera-ready as any newborn I’ve ever seen. It didn’t matter what position I put her in, she was “thumbs up” and ready to pose.

A few months ago, I photographed the Triplett’s maternity portrait session. Grandmother Tabitha is a friend of mine and reached out to make that session happen after the family experienced several losses in a short amount of time. Gracelynn is the antidote for that pain and loss, bringing with her hope, light and joy.

These photos are going to hang in both Caitlin and Matthew’s house and Tabitha’s as well. Before we even started the shoot, we discussed wall arrangements, so I was already familiar with the rooms themselves in both houses, what they wanted, their wishes, color palettes and themes.

For Caitlyn, the gallery/collection will be made up of maternity and newborn portraits with 6 month and 1 year portraits to come.

For Grandma Tabitha’s home, we are creating an entire wall made up of images of Gracelynn, Caitlynn and Matthew, and Tabitha’s other child Zach. When we are able, we will take family portraits of everyone together. I am so looking forward to that.

I felt a calling once again during this shoot to do this type of photography. New moms need whispered prayers, encouragement and a reminder that what they are doing is right. I think we forget how anxiety-producing it is to bring home a teeny human who needs absolutely everything. Being a loving and stable presence, even during a few hours for a portrait session, or for a year of sessions, gives me the opportunity to share a little love and support. I’m grateful for this.
