Baby’s First Year Photography Packages

We recently reminded you fine people out there about our Referral Program, and Pixels clients should take advantage of it! But now is also a great time to remind those of you who are thinking about starting a family, newly engaged or just married. We have a package created just for you that nearly all of our maternity or new parents avail themselves of: the One Year Baby Package. I chose a beloved family for whom we captured maternity, newborn, 6 month and finally the first birthday of their adorable daughter.

Our package covers newborn portraits, a 6-month portrait session and then a One Year Birthday session. Maternity portraits can be added if you desire. Even if Pixels did not photograph your engagement shots, your wedding or any other portraits, you can still take advantage of this package. Parents tell us over and over again how grateful they are that they made this a priority. These images make not only great memories and heirlooms, but baby and family portraits are perfect gifts for grandparents or relatives. Often clients create canvases for their children’s bedrooms or for the family wall of images. Ryan and I will even create and install these.

I’m sharing two blogs with more details about why I’m passionate about covering a baby’s first year, and even more details about what each session captures. Give me a call and let’s start planning.

Paisley’s mermaid themed third birthday

This little blue eyed beauty is Miss P – P for Paisley – and she recently turned three years old in style. She was a brand new baby when we first photographed her with her extensive clan, the Eldridge Family, and we captured her again for her first birthday in the peach orchards. For the celebratory portrait session, and in true form, her family brought tons of props for a mermaid themed extravaganza. It was totally girlie and totally fun.

We hosted this birthday shoot in our Pixels portrait photography studio and really decked it out. I’m always in awe of the creativity our clients bring to the table, and this girl has a palette. The purple and lavender from her orchard session were present again for this birthday shoot.

I love these little milestones, especially during a time when we need to be present with each other and celebrate all the small and beautiful moments life has for us. And I love that my son Finley and little Miss P get along so well. It was fun watching them giggling as we set things up. Happy Birthday, Paisley! We love you.

Newborn Baby Photos of Miss Astrid

Macy and Jesse are now the brand spanking new parents of a pretty spectacular little girl. Meet Sweet Astrid Jane.

If you follow this blog, you’ll remember the maternity shoot we shared of this young couple, taken what feels like yesterday, outdoors near some great views. They were excited and expectant, and Macy looked gorgeous in a blue maternity dress.

Well, she gave birth in November and is already such a loving and attentive mom. Father Jesse also impressed me with his gentleness. He’s always that way with Macy, but watching him gingerly and so quietly attend to his newborn daughter during the photo shoot was a reminder of the importance of dads as comforters and loving caregivers, not just breadwinners and protectors.

The quiet, gentle, easy nature of both mom and dad is clearly a part of their new love. Astrid was so sweet and calm and compliant. It was a wonderful portrait session, even with the social distancing and key protocols, the world fell away and we could all just revolve around this new little being.

The name Astrid, for those of you who’ve never heard it before, is a Scandinavian name that combines a “god” with “beautiful” or “fair.” This little girl is definitely a fair beauty and absolutely worshiped by her besotted parents. We’re pretty crazy about her too.

Tinleigh 6 months portraits in Ruffles and Bows

York family six months baby portrait photos by Pixels On Paper Photographers Wilkesboro NC photo

Tinleigh is the only girl among her siblings and it feels like a blink since she had newborn portraits taken. On this occasion, we turned our studio over to her and her stylist and let her go nuts. For her six month portrait session, with no brothers around, and my stash of dress up options, ribbons, ruffles and pearls, this little light shined. Man, she is cute! And her mom loved seeing her all girly for the photo session.

Although it was hard not to see a little tomboy in her since she’s surrounded by brothers, Tinleigh loves all things girly at the moment. I created a creamy Victorian setting and in a little ruffled onsie she was adorable. We also let her drape herself in a bright pink tulle number, … as one does.

I love the expressions this little girl makes. Her face says a million discerning and hammy little things in micro-seconds. I cannot wait to chat with her when she starts talking.

I typically keep my two year old Finley out of the studio during sessions, but Tinleigh is so accustomed to being entertained by her brothers that when she appeared to be getting bored I allowed my little curly haired Ginger to join us. She loved it and was all eyes and smiles. He perked her right up, something I know from first-hand experience that he’s great at.

I cannot wait to get this little nugget, with or without her older brothers, in front of my lens again. Maybe another outdoor, day in the life session with the whole family……….hmmmmm. I have a phone call to make!

What to Expect during a newborn photoshoot – we’ve got you covered

For those who missed it the first time, it’s important to repost if you have a newbie at home: How to Prepare and What Really Happens during a newborn portrait session. So, what really happens during newborn photo sessions?
Well, for starters, the sessions don’t flow from pose to pose and set to set, as I’m sure you’ve already imagined. We’re dealing with fresh little beings who have been breathing on their own for only about 10 days. They don’t know about lighting, where to look or to remain still, because they are little tubes. Breast milk or formula goes in and poop comes out. In the middle they stare, cry and sleep.

A newborn session can take up to four hours. During that span, our camera is not up with the shutter clicking away, because, as mentioned, newborns babies are entirely unpredictable. We never know when or how often they will cry, sleep, eat or need a diaper change and all those things tend to take the most amount of time during our session. A fraction of the 4 hours is spent capturing images, but don’t worry, we tend to get the magic because we know what to look for and when to seize a moment.

Here’s a little guide that helps moms who are breastfeeding and planning the photo shoot day.

Here are a few tips and suggestions that I email our clients prior to the session:
  • Give your baby a bath and lather him or her in lotion and bring the lotion with you. This will help condition any peeling skin.
  • Keep your baby awake before the session if possible. We know this can often be tricky during the car ride, but do your best.
  • We want you to bring us a hungry baby! When you arrive he/she will be ready for food and a nap. Those sleeping angels make the best portraits. Try not to feed for a few hours before arrival. Feeding when you arrive at the studio will ensure that he/she will drift off to sleep and be most cooperative to being posed and photographed.
  • If you are nursing, there is a list of foods that we recommend you avoid for 48 hours before your session that will help keep your baby from being gassy or fussy during the session.

Read the entire blog and be in touch! We understand what it takes from behind the camera and in front of it! We’ve got your back.
