Class of 2020 Senior Portrait Photos

Yes, we’re in the middle of a pandemic. No, that does not at all diminish what you’ve accomplished. Graduation dates are approaching and we’ve got seniors on the brain.

While we know that high school and college seniors are basically either on pins and needles about their graduation ceremonies or they are now gearing up for something a little different than perhaps they wanted, we’re here to help.

These milestones are still big deals in your life and we want you to be able to get dressed up and have portraits taken that will memorialize your accomplishments.

While Pixels is strictly following all protocols laid out by the CDC and other government agencies, we do have an open air outdoor portrait garden that is glorious and ready for senior portrait sessions.

As the weeks and months unfold, we hope that we will be able to schedule individual shoots with no physical contact. Please get in touch with us if you are interested in discussing a plan to capture your senior milestone portraits. We’re here.

We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs newborns and families, special events and portraits  of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

Ashleigh High School Senior

This lovely 18 year old is Ashleigh, and recently when we photographed her family in Stone Mountain, we also made time to get photos of her as a soon-to-be high school graduate. In May of 2020, Ashleigh will finish up at West Wilkes High School and head on to her next adventure. I love this young woman and I have been photographing her since she was about 3. I cannot believe that she’s graduating from high school, because I graduated HS with her mom!!!!! I have a two year old, Ashleigh’s mom Jenny has an 18 year old. We Gen-Xers all took our own paths and I love it.

One of the things I love about Ashleigh is that she knows her own mind and is perfectly happy to share her thoughts. She’s not rude, but she’s sassy and holds her own when ribbing her brother and parents, who were on the shoot with us. She is fun and funny and honest with herself. This is a girl I won’t need to worry about.

During the outdoor portrait session, Ashleigh had three or four wardrobe changes, and wore a boho style hat that she loved. She looks fab in it, if I say so myself.

Not all rising seniors or almost graduated students are happy with the options provided through their school and Ashleigh really wanted images that could work in a photo album, graduation invitations & announcements and especially on social media. We made sure that we captured loads for her to share, print and frame. Seniors: there are a lot of options out there and you have specific needs during this time in life. I promise, we’ve got you covered.

Congratulations, Girl! Ryan and I are so proud of you and hope you’ll keep letting us snap your photo long into the next chapters of your life.

LeAnne – Portrait photos of a UNCG Grad

If you are over the age of 30, this photo shoot will hurl you back in time: back to college graduation. Your life as an adult is ahead of you and it’s all just about the next chapter and big decisions. Ah, to be young.

We’ve known LeAnne McAbee since she was a high schooler and was a part of our All About Proms photo shoot 5 years ago. When she contacted me about her latest milestone, I couldn’t say “YES” fast enough.

When LeAnne determined that should would graduating in December, she was excited and ready to plan and so were we. She definitely wanted to get images when autumn was in full glory around the campus of UNCG, but you know that the best laid plans of mice, men, grads and photographers can easily be spoiled. We’ve learned not to expect the weather or Mama Nature to cooperate. The day of our October session, it was 98 degrees. LeAnne was the best though – even when she had to put on her polyester gown.

We shot all over campus at some of LeAnne’s favorite spots, and even at a few that we found accidentally. She was so lively and fresh-faced, it wouldn’t have mattered where my lens was focused, but the blue sky and her blue dress and gown were perfect. While photographing on the alumni hall steps we reminisced about the time in 2014 when I photographed her on similar steps at the Wilkesboro history museum. Will I be forgiven if I use the cliche “time flies?”

It’s an incredible feeling to see this once young teen now as an accomplished young woman, making big plans and following up on her dreams. We knew she would. Next steps for this year include taking (and I’m sure acing) the LSAT, and then beginning law school in the fall of 2020.   Congratulations, LeAnne!! We’re so proud of you.

Senior High School Portraits

Hey All! We’ve been enjoying our summer and will continue to until the very end. I would say bitter end, but summer is wonderful and so is autumn. It’s way more sweet than bitter.
We hope you are living large too! Get your ice cream, go camping and tubing, have family reunions, read those books that have been stacking up and get some rest. I said so.

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s do a little thinking about the fall and for rising seniors, it means portraits. Below are some of our favorite senior images from over the years, so let this be a nudge to be thinking about location, wardrobe, your schedule and if you would like for these to be part of holiday card, graduation party invitation, given as holiday gifts, blown up life size so that parents can pretend to talk to you after you’ve flown the coop……………. I think there is a pill or therapy for that, but I won’t share it in this blog.
Casual, prom ready, or a variety of wardrobe choices – it’s entirely up to you. The Blue Ridge Parkway, a club golf course, our outdoor portrait garden, your family’s backyard, the same is true of location. Pick where you want to be and we’ll be there!
Senior Portrait blog Part II is coming with more images (and ideas) to share. But if you want to see more from these sessions check out Maddie Roberts, Gage Eldridge and Allison Elliott.

all about prom 2013 fashion photo shoot

We had the opportunity again this year to participate with six other special event vendors in Wilkesboro and be the sole provider of photography for the 2nd annual All About Prom event. For two weeks in December representatives from each of five Wilkes County high schools competed on Facebook to be selected as the Prom Model to represent their school. Winners were given a full day of glamour, pampering and the high fashion model experience in exchange for representing all that the event sponsors have to offer in the latest prom fashions and services. Each girl was fitted with two complete glamorous wardrobes by Bridal Traditions Wedding and Prom attire that included dress, shoes, and jewelry accessories.  Intricate matching nail design using everything from crystals to glitter were created by Valery Guevara of Blossom Salon & Butterfly Boutique. Dominique Nunn also of Blossom Salon transformed each girl with glamour makeup, sometimes incorporating feathers and sequins, that was uniquely created to coordinate with the formal dresses they would be wearing. Andrea Hunt of Cut Ups Salon styled each model’s  hair using fashion forward techniques that were ahead of the trends. The finishing touch added to each model as she entered our studio portrait sets were unique floral accessories designed by Denise Brooks of Innovative Occasions. Denise took the old tradition of corsage and boutonnieres to a whole new level. What’s a fashion photo shoot without a professional videographer on set? Shaun Cardwell of Divine Treasures Videography captured moving images and created a stunning short film of the day.Three completely custom photo backdrops were designed at the Pixels On Paper portrait studio. Ryan and Misty both took turns all day  photographing each model and making each one truly experience the Pixels On Paper difference both on set and later when seeing their final photos. Pixels offers unique and creative portrait photography. Forget about those horribly traditional photos made during prom where they make you say cheese and place you in a stiff traditional pose.
