love is in the details

Little, personalized touches are often what makes one wedding different than all others and our advice to each couple we photograph is to find ways to make their wedding day personalized. Some couples pick 2-3 specific items to focus on – succulents and a nod to a shared love of cycling for example (see below) – or a love of Dr. Who and their college school colors. But whether it’s some trinket added to the bride’s bouquet, or a lines from a poem painted and featured around the reception hall, incorporating those special items of significance throughout the décor, food and flowers can make an event memorable.

One of the neat things about us even though we’re on year 14 of photographing weddings together is that our perspectives are totally different. Ryan absolutely loves the small details and he loves to photograph them. No matter how hard I try, his are always better. He just has a knack for it.

We love to see when a couple’s personalities are incorporated into wedding details and decor, even if it’s just subtle hints. Sometimes a lot of time, effort and creativity go into making these details and we certainly want to be sure that they’re photographed uniquely. Favorite books, family heirlooms, inside jokes, modern takes on wedding toppers, it’s all as specific as each couple is different.

We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs, engagements and weddingsbrides, and special events and portraits  of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

Autumn Outdoor Bridal Portraits at Leatherwood Mountain Resort

Just a few weeks ago, we shot another June wedding. Katie Vance married Patrick Carlson at Leatherwood Mountain Resort. We photographed Katie’s bridal portraits on November 4, 2016 at this very same spot. Katie wanted photos at Leatherwood both in the fall as well as in the summer to show off the various scenic views. Katie chose it to showcase the opposite. She is more princess than country bride and loves to sparkle. Even the Vans she wore with her gown had purple glitter on them. Katie grew up in Boone and loved being in the glorious mountain views that surrounded her all year. She loved how the mountains could be so massive and still be charming in the details. Her challenge to us was not to photograph the farm’s rustic style but instead to capture the more elegant natural surroundings. We were happy to oblige. best of 2010 weddings | charlotte wedding photographer | pixels on paper

FINALLY! After months of research, talking about it, and wishing we had…We created a blog! We are thrilled that it is finally underway and and can be checked off our list.  We thought what better to be our first post than to look back on 2010 with all we have to be thankful for.

2010 was an amazing year for us. By far one of the busiest in our careers.  It has been an incredible blessing to meet new people and make new friends all while doing what we love to do and watching our business grow.  To have earned the trust of so many clients who placed one of the most important days of their lives in our hands is a compliment beyond measure.

We continued to feed our creativity and educate ourselves whenever possible. Much in part to The Light Factory, WPPI, and other amazing photographers, who we call friends, that let us constantly pick their brains. In 2010 we added off-camera lighting to our artillery. This allowed us to finally capture our visions of dramatic light and perfect exposures. No more painful battles with dark reception halls or direct sunlight!  Just one more way of setting ourselves apart from the rest.

We won’t stop there.  We have BIG plans for 2011 and can’t wait to share the excitement.  We’re looking forward to what God has in store for us and the creative opportunities that our clients bring on!  In the meantime enjoy looking back at 2010 as we share our favorite wedding images and we hope you will keep coming back for more.
