It’s January. It’s as cold as a well-digger’s bootie and we’ve gotten snow and experienced unseasonable – some southerners would say unreasonable – temps. But it IS winter after all. While I’m home with sweet Finley, every day is an adventure, but the seasons don’t stop, and as any hard-working meteorologist will tell you, neither does weather. There’s something comforting about the expectations of each season, because we know that the earth is going to keep turning, the sun keep shining and that will bring spring. Some days, I dream of spring and because of what we do at Pixels, I dream of our favorite orchard.
We have been the official (read: exclusive) photographers allowed to shoot at this site and every year we take children, engaged couples, families, models, whomever out there for spring photos, Easter photos or just gorgeous heirlooms.

While it’s different every year, it’s consistent in how special it is. We hope you’ll consider getting family portraits taken with us this year – even those graduation photos can be taken early and ready for graduation cards. We’ll be posting dates for sessions when it gets a little closer and we know more about the weather and what the orchard will be like. In the meantime, a girl can dream.
We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs, engagements and weddings, brides, and special events and portraits of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

There’s a saying that all babies are beautiful. I agree. I also think the same is true – for the most part…….. I’ve seen some messes – but never through my lens. A bride is lovely because she is not only wearing the dress of her dreams and marrying the partner of her dreams (WE HOPE), but she’s often times fulfilling a childhood dream to be the center of attention, surrounded by family, friends and lots of love. Brides glow. They represent the future and traditions, new and old, and they always represent hope. I’ve never photographed a bride who wasn’t shining with an inner light – even when mixed with nerves.

Cowboy boots, girlie girls, princesses, tomboys, women shielded by veils, mountains in the background, surrounded by lush botanical gardens, brides – sheathed in gowns – are absolutely gorgeous.

So much goes into choosing your wedding gown and once you have, once you’ve heard The Love Theme from Romeo & Juliet and said Yes to the Dress and gone through the process of making it yours, etc. it’s’ time to schedule your portraits. Granted, you’ll have fittings and want to try it on and twirl around and work out your hair and flowers, but once you feel like you know the path, we want to be there to capture photos that will become heirlooms. And isn’t thinking about this and planning for it more fun navigating the multiple layers of clothing we all find ourselves in this January?

These two cuties – Brooke Davis and Joey Tibbett – met at App State and will be married in May of this year. We met them for their engagement portrait session at the Moses Cone Manor in Blowing Rock. It was cold that day and since rainy weather had already shifted our schedule once, we were determined to make it work, despite the weather. They brought their beloved dog Cisco with them, along with a pal – the “dog wrangler” so we were a troop making our way from location to location.![]()

The manor and property are beautiful and so is the Blue Ridge Parkway we used for some shots. When the fog rolled in, we were able to play with lighting some too. Mostly, we wanted them to stay warm, so Brooke kept her coat handy between shots. ![]()

We loved getting to know more about this pair – like for instance that they are considering writing their own vows, that keeping family close is important and that comic books will be given out as gifts at the reception. They’re anxious for their families to know that after the vows are said – even now frankly – they will be one big family. Apparently, Brooke and Joey knew well before they truly expected it that they were going to be together. Adopting sweetheart Cisco made it a done deal. After their wedding and the completion of Brooke’s Masters, they hope to be living in Mooresville and preparing to add to their family – with pups and kiddos.![]()

We love a couple who’ll bring their dog along, because you all know how much we love our Chelsea. We also look forward to their wedding and watching their lives take off. We’ve been there and the journey is in its genesis. Good luck and loads of love, Brooke and Joey!
