Newborn Photography {FAQs} | Pixels On Paper Wikesboro NC Family Portrait Photographer
Having a professional portrait studio space to photograph newborns has given us the ability to create a safe, warm, inviting and relaxed environment for both parents and babies. Sanitation, preparation and efficiency during a newborn portrait session are top priorities for us. We want to take this opportunity to answer some of the most frequently asked questions.
When should I contact you to book my newborn session?
We HIGHLY recommend you contact us during your pregnancy to start the booking process. We want to add you to our schedule as soon as possible and keep tabs on you throughout your maternity. Although we make every effort to fit in last-minute newborn session requests, our schedule fills up quickly and it may not be possible to do so. Once you are on our calendar, you are given priority after your baby arrives and we will be sure to schedule your session within 10 days after you leave the hospital.
Why does my baby need to be so young for a newborn session?
The ideal time for a newborn session is generally when a baby is between 5-10 days old. They are still very sleepy and are still comfortable being curled up similar to how they were positioned in the womb so their legs tuck up underneath them very comfortably. We can pose them in all those sweet poses quicker and more easily while they sleep. Every passing day after birth brings more awake time and less tolerance to the posing.
Where will the session take place?
All newborn sessions take place in the Pixels On Paper portrait photography studio located at 1198 Johnson Lane, Wilkesboro NC. In studio means we can devote more time to the session because we don’t have to pack up all of our equipment, props, lighting and supplies each time we have a session. We can guarantee our light and environment is perfect and exactly what you have come to expect in our photos rather than trying to search for the right location and light in your home.
How long will the session take?
The session can last anywhere from 2 – 4 hours depending on how often your baby needs to be fed and how well your baby sleeps through the posing and accessory changes; every baby is different and some babies may need more soothing and slower transitions than others. Taking our time and perfecting every shot is more important than rushing a session.

Megan and Luke are one of the sweetest most down-to-earth, hardest working couples that you’ll ever meet. You can’t help but laugh and enjoy spending time with them. They’ve been married for four years and are now expecting their first child, a little boy, in early October. Why do I mention the hard working part you might wonder? Because they’re farmers. Not just gardening small time type of farmers, but real, true, salt-of-the-earth, 16 hour days, year around, acre upon acre, generation after generation, full-time farmers. And the family farm, well it’s mind-blowing gorgeous. If you’ve ever seen mid-west US farms, imagine one of those surrounded by beautiful mountains in the heart of the NC Yadkin Valley. Their baby boy is going to grow up in the most beautiful of surroundings with a lifestyle that can’t be beat. We’re already taking bets on how young he will be when he learns to drive a tractor or combine.
Not only was the farm the perfect setting for their maternity portrait photography, but we’re already visualizing future family portrait photography in our heads. We’re hoping to recreate some of these photos with the addition of a little one as their family grows. These moments and memories are priceless. My how time flies. Seems like just yesterday that we captured Harper’s newborn photography and now she is already six months old. Her Mom and Dad invested in our complete baby photography plan which allows us to photograph her during all of her first year’s momentous occasions including her Mom’s maternity, newborn, six month, and her first year birthday.
This little cutie is filled with pure joy and each time we photograph her she makes our day that much brighter.
At this age and younger, having a photo studio to photograph precious newborns, babies and toddlers allows us to provide a warm and comfortable environment with a relaxed atmosphere for children and parents alike. We have a huge inventory of props and unique hand-made backdrops along with wardrobe accessories that are fully accessible to our clients.

This little cutie had our hearts from the time she began inside her mother’s womb. That’s because we were her parents engagement, bridals, and wedding photographers and have been great friends since. We’ve had the opportunity to capture Amelia’s portrait photography at our Wilkesboro based photo studio, during every momentous occasion of her growth (even though it has only been a year). Already documenting her turning one is hard to believe. My how time does fly! She has also been a model we can call on for children’s photography and when we’re experimenting with a new backdrop in the studio or outside in our portrait garden. Talk about convenient!
That moment when she slept snug on our little baby posing pillow as a newborn has long since been replaced by trying to keep up with a toddler wondering excitedly through the studio.
