The Caudills – 4 Generations of Family

We recently got a call from a photography client and friend with some news and a request. Daniel Caudill shared that his grandfather’s health had changed and he wanted to make sure that there were family photos of ALL of them together – from his grandparents down to great-grandchildren. 2020 has made social distancing a priority, but families still need to see each other, feel some normalcy and spend time together, so Ryan took off to their family home to take pictures.

Even though the weather was warm, everyone gathered to see the matriarch and patriarch of the family, play in the yard, and catch up. Ryan told me he orbited around the groups between setups, teasing the kids, talking to the adults and reminiscing about times Pixels has photographed this tribe. We think this makes 10 times we’ve been honored to photograph these folks.

When the heat became too much, everyone went inside where they told stories and Ryan said he felt like a member of the family and was treated as such. They sat for a long time, laughing and relishing each others company. Being able to do this is extremely special for us and one of the reasons we love our jobs so much.

We captured Daniel and Sarah (below, back row, on the right) in photo shoots for their engagement, wedding, post-wedding time at Faithfest and then later took Daniel’s professional head shots when he became a realtor. Getting his call sent us into action, of course. We love all these guys so much.

Ashley and Oscar Orozco (below, top left with grandparents and their two children) have been beloved clients of ours for a while too and they are also part of the Caudill clan. We photographed their engagement portraits, their wedding, newborn portraits of daughter Anna Sophia, and their first born Leo’s portraits. We even spent time in our favorite orchard for a springtime family portrait session.

We are not promised tomorrow, but we can be grateful today. We are thinking of this amazing family today and everyday and are so glad we were able to take a collection of family portraits that each member can hold dear for decades to come.

We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs newborns and families, special events and portraits  of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

Maternity Portraits…

Hello Pregnant Ladies out there. I’m booking maternity sessions and these, along with newborn and baby sessions, are my passion.

Capturing the entire family as part of a maternity session is not a must, but these images show such a specific moment in time: the “who we were before you arrived” photos to show the new baby later. They also make great wall hangings and excellent gifts.

Some moms want to add props that speak to their passions and the passions they hope their new babies will embrace. I personally love a theme and using props. Those sessions tend to take on a life of their own.

A favorite maternity shoot was a surprise from Jeremy Arnold to his expecting wife (above). They later welcomed their son, Wyatt.

Embracing the elements as part of your maternity portraits? Yes. Water, earth, sky, a special river or creek, lake or mountain vista… all of these set the stage and the results tend to be breathtaking.

While it is still fair outside during the months ahead, consider scheduling your maternity shoot. I can help you consider locations, themes and the best way to capture you as a mom or mom-to-be for posterity. I promise, you’ll be glad you did it.

Fall Portrait Photography Sessions

We’ve made it to Labor Day during a global pandemic. Somehow, someway, here we are. I am grateful and I am ready for fall. We hope you all are taking care of yourselves as kids return to whatever version of school is on deck for them. Now: it’s time to talk about fall portraits of your family, your children and even the holidays.

End of Summer Outdoor Portraits

I’m not calling it. Summer is NOT over. Say whatever you want about the leaves, the temps, Labor Day Weekend, school in session, etc, but I’m not ready. The end is near to be sure, but can’t we just enjoy the best of the outdoors in summer?

Really? Can we? EXCELLENT!

Family portraits, engagement portraits, sessions with and without dogs, with or without a theme or narrative, we are ready. We love being outside with our clients.

Fall is coming. I know, I know. More about that in our next blog. In the meantime, take advantage of the weeks ahead and then get out your calendars.

15 Years of Pixels On Paper – Pt. 3 – And Here We Are

During the last 15 years, we have gained so much. That is perhaps my greatest understatement to date. From double-booking weddings for most summer weekends, to adding commercial and business photography, incorporating graphic design and branding services, we just kept growing.

5 years ago we were asked to be Official Photographers at MerleFest and have been there every year except 2020. We really missed that event and our fellow photogs this year, but know we’ll all be back.

In 2015, we held a BIG party to celebrate and show our gratitude to friends, family and clients. We’ve been blessed beyond measure and believe me, we know it.

We have also gained so much personally. Ryan and I became parents since our 10th Anniversary party, and Finley changed more than just our work schedules. He’s our first thought when we make big decisions in business and at home.

After Finley was born, we re-prioritized nearly everything and realized that our schedule of weddings was going to be hard to maintain. The climate was shifting to trends of do-it-yourself with your iPhone or hire a family member or non-professional to handle it, but for us it was also the sheer number of weddings we were asked to photograph.

Ryan and I were keen to be present for raising our kid. That was the deciding factor. Moving forward, we will still photograph weddings, but they are on a case-by-case basis and are few and far between. Our focus now is on family portraits, the occasional community event, newborn portraits, outdoor photography and Day in the Life documentary portrait sessions. And of course, graphic design and commercial work continue to be a staple.

Only occasionally do I wish for a crystal ball, as we call it a wrap on 15 years and prepare for the next 15. My faith leads me to work on my patience and being present for Ryan, Finley, our family and ways to be better as a human and better as a photographer. There aren’t enough words to express how amazed I am that 15 years have passed and how grateful I am for what each one has taught me. Thank you to all of you who have supported us and continue to. We’re here! It’s a weird world right now, but we’re still at it. Happy Anniversary to Pixels and
… much love to you all,
Misty & Ryan
