Gifts that Last = Photos

As we all take the deep breath before “the Season” is in full swing, we’re also making lists of people we love and what they might love to have this year for the holidays. While you’re in that mode, we hope to remind you that portraits make gifts that last a lot longer and mean way more than most gifts we’re being tempted to by.

Portraits make The BEST Holiday Gifts

We are now also taking reservations for At Home Christmas portraits and these not only make popular gifts, the portrait session itself is fun. We LOVE these sessions.

Holiday Photos at Your Home

We are once again offering Christmas at Home photo sessions and we are already booking! Families are ready to create and document memories in their own home and we are just the photographers to help them do it.

Nothing is more important during the holidays (or anytime for that matter) than family. I want a way to create a personal experience for each of our clients. I want to capture families gathered around trees with handmade ornaments, trees where all the fragile ornaments are at a height away from little fingers, stockings are personalized and tree toppers are those that have been passed through generations. I’d love to capture children in their Christmas PJs while they show me an ornament they made at school. Children years from now will recognize their surroundings in a photograph. What it looks like is different for every single one of our clients.

The Andrews family (below) baked and decorated and played games. Their house and halls were decked and decorated beautifully.

While you may not know exactly what you want your holiday portraits or cards to look like, or what you want your family to be wearing, or if you want to include pets, it’s time to call and schedule your in-home portraits session.
Pajamas and tree decorating. Check.
Wrapping presents around a fire. No problem.
Playing touch football in the yard. Sure.
Decorating cookies and destroying the kitchen. Why not?
Playing board games or lying in a pile watching the Grinch or reading The Night Before Christmas. Absolutely.

… whatever the tableau, we’re in to brainstorm, laugh with you, help with the idea and document it. At home sessions are WAY MORE FUN than you know, unless you’ve booked us for a one in the past. Families have told us how thrilled they are to have these specific memories forever.

The Yorks (below) asked us to their home not long after their third child, a daughter Tinleigh, and we had time around the fire pit to roast marshmallows and discuss Santa’s plans.

The Holland family (above in 2019 and below in 2016) invited us over and between the decorating and games, we captured fantastic images of this family of 5.

Angelina Turns One – Cake Smash Photos

This juicy fruit of a baby is Angelina and I’m astonished that she’s now a year old! I remember shooting maternity images of her expectant and excited parents and it feels like moments ago. Parents Jessica and Bobby Bennett are two of the most fun people I’ve photographed in the last year plus.

Angelina has been cute since day one and I would know. She made it to our studio not long after she was born (and she arrived three weeks early!) and was a deliciously juicy little newborn bundle then. For her six month portraits, we all met up at our favorite orchard and captured her underneath the pink blossoms.

For her first birthday, we were back in the studio with a luau theme, lots of bright colors, pineapples, props, costume changes, and of course, a cake to destroy – I mean nibble. Angelina was so easy to work with and loved her outfits and the icing she sampled. I love these full circle one year moments! Happy Birthday, Sweet Angelina!!

These Days

There’s a simple and beautiful song that you all may or may not be familiar with called “These Days.” It’s a throwback for sure. Written in the mid-1960s by Jackson Browne (and later re-popularized by Nico), it’s the mental wanderings of a person sort of in a moment of pause and reflection. The lyrics make me feel pretty seen, and that’s not a bad thing. There’s something about the place I’m in currently – raising a nearly 4 year old – that calls for pauses and reflection and I am so very there “these days.”

Being present for Finley and Ryan (and WITH Finlay and Ryan) has been my primary task this last 18 months and that has its rewards, even for a working woman with goals and a sense of purpose. I know I am where I’m supposed to be, and when my motivation wanes, I’m reminded that it’s OK. These days are about watching life unfold and noticing what would have been missed were I staring at the computer screen all day.

We have been doing life, you guys, spending lots of time outside, escaping to the arms of family, working on home and farm projects, stealing away to the movies, and trying not to worry about what isn’t getting done.

I heard a great quote the other day about nostalgia. The conversation was about going back to relive your life once you knew you’d survived into an advanced age. You could enjoy moments more because you knew the outcome was good. You’d enjoy sitting next to the cute boy on the bus instead of wondering if he thought you looked stupid or had bad breath or whatever. You could truly BE IN THE MOMENT. The author said, “nostalgia is all of the memories, but without the anxiety of not knowing what happens next.” You got the reverie without the flop sweat, stomach aches and sleepless nights. I’m choosing to be present now, even though I don’t know how this movie I’m in actually ends. I rely on my faith and put one foot in front of the next.

None of us knows how it’s all going to turn out. But I’m here for it. I’m here for every busy, exhausted, up at dawn, running all day, forgetting things, remembering others moment of these days. Hang in there and be gentle with yourselves, gang! There is hope and joy out there; it may just not look like you thought it would.
