Schedule Your Christmas Portraits 2019
Season’s Greetings! <ducking>
I know some of you are decidedly not ready to go into holiday mode, so consider this just a gentle nudge. At Pixels, I am in the process of decorating our portrait studio for the 2019 Christmas season. It’s going to be gorgeous, if I say so myself, and when I’m a little closer to completion, I’ll start sharing the color palette and some details.
Your task, should you choose to undertake this adventure, dear reader – AND YOU SHOULD – is to get out your calendar. It is time to schedule your portrait session and time to order cards and gifts.
For $125, we will provide 5 digital images for families with up to 3 children. This includes the printing rights along with the option to purchase prints, cards, and gifts. Pets and additional children or family members are welcome for an additional $25.
Our fee is due when you make your reservation. Once again, I saw no need to raise the price. We want you all to make this an easy and affordable priority this year. These portraits last a lifetime, you know.
For those of you who want a more documentary feel for your holiday portraits, we recommend a family in-home session. These have become really popular over the last 4 years and we love doing them too. Parents want to capture what it looks like “doing the holidays” with their kids and family members and this doesn’t mean you have to have your entire house redecorated or even that pulled together. I PROMISE. We just want you to be present, focused on the holiday and enjoying yourself.
Whether your tree is decorated yet or not, whether you’ve figured out an activity yet or not, whether you even know yet how you’re going to celebrate: don’t worry. Just give it some thought. At home photos are special.
Be thinking about your holiday plans and then, after you’ve finished with Halloween, give us a call and let’s get you scheduled! Weekend slots fill up quickly.

Christmas is Coming – Time to Schedule Your In-Home Portraits
So much to do, so much to plan, so much to organize… and folks, I am right there with you. The mind reels during the holiday season. No sooner have you taken the surplus Halloween candy to work, than you’re gearing up for Thanksgiving. But we hope that you find time for making memories and capturing them for posterity. We managed to get out with our little pumpkin – Finley – to enjoy some warm temps.
But here is one task you can check off your list in 5 minutes: scheduling your Christmas portrait session. While you may not know exactly what you want your holiday portraits or cards to look like, or what you want your family to be wearing, or if you want to include pets, it’s time to call and schedule your in-home portraits session.
Pajamas and tree decorating. Check.
Wrapping presents around a fire. No problem.
Playing touch football in the yard. Sure.
Decorating cookies and destroying the kitchen. Why not?
Playing board games or lying in a pile watching the Grinch or reading The Night Before Christmas. Absolutely.
… whatever the tableau, we’re in to brainstorm, laugh with you, help with the idea and document it. At home sessions are WAY MORE FUN than you know, unless you’ve booked us for a one in the past. Families have told us how thrilled they are to have these specific memories forever.

Merry Christmas, thanks & love from us
Christmas for us came when I learned I was pregnant. You take a breath, you say a prayer of thanks, you look at your body now as a vessel versus just your operating system. As a couple, you think, “Jesus, take the wheel.” We did all of those things. Being pregnant was exhausting at times, exhilarating when my energy returned, hilarious when I was photographing clients crawling on the ground with a belly and ultimately, it was the most profound transition in the world when Finley James arrived not long before Thanksgiving.

As we said in other blogs and social media posts – and elsewhere – nothing turns your life upside down like adding another human to your day to day. We’re in love with him. He makes us guffaw in wonder, laugh out loud, say prayers of joy, thanks and prayers for help, and little Finley has reminded us how deeply important it is to say “Thank You” and “I’m Sorry” and “I appreciate you” and “Here’s what you mean to me.” Humbling is a word that comes to mind a lot lately, as does transformed.
For you – our sweet clients, collaborators, peers, family and friends – there aren’t enough words of love to convey the ways you’ve touched our lives, not just in 2017, but since we started this venture.
So as not to appear lazy and ungrateful – two things we are decidedly NOT, here is an attempt at naming a few:

Thank you helping us through my pregnancy, for giving advice and for jumping in when he arrived.
Thanks for keeping us grounded when small to medium thoughts, issues and stressors ran the risk of becoming bigger worries than they really were.
Thanks for seeing us across deep waters when there WERE large issues.
Thanks for allowing us to indulge in the joy of YOUR families, milestones, and lives.
Thanks for letting us turn our lens on you to see the beauty of other journeys in our midst.
Thanks for doing life with us. We love your presence in the world and it magnifies our sense of scope at what really constitutes a full life.
Thanks for taking this journey with us. We learn from watching you, laughing with you, wringing our hands around you, breathing the same air as you and from the ways our lives overlap. Truly, these intersections are a God Thing and we absolutely thank Him too.

Christmas Portraits
Our studio this 2017 holiday season was a revolving door of friends, collaborators, families, children, pets and we loved it. And we took photos of them too <smirk, laugh>. Seeing the faces of some of our nearest and dearest family/friends, checking out how the children have grown and hearing about school, sports, jobs, holiday plans, what’s new for 2018 was wonderful. This time of year, a plus to photographing not only new faces, but long standing clients and pals is that we really get that time to give hugs, recalibrate, and share that sense of renewal and hope.
