The York family’s maternity photos

Yes, this photo session included husband and kiddos! We love shoots of the expectant mother glowing and showing off her belly, but we also appreciate capturing the group that will be this kid’s welcoming committee. Mitch, Lindsey and their young sons, Tate & Turner met us in the woods near a stream to celebrate some pretty fantastic news for this family.

Both sides of Mitch and Lindsey’s families are largely populated by boys. For whatever reason, there just aren’t that many daughters born into the mix. So when the couple found out that their third child was a little girl, let’s just say that there was great joy.

We met up with this crew on a VERY hot Memorial Day, but planned ahead as moms with boys will do. Since we brought our son Finley to the shoot, Lindsey and I decided that when we were done for the day, we would let the boys play in the creek and just get dirty and wet! And they did.

Tate and Turner had some adjusting to do to get ready for a little sister (the Yorks greeted Miss Tinleigh in late June and you’ll meet her soon!), but on this day it was about fun in the woods, something this family thrives on. We LOVE interacting with families who are now friends so despite the heat, we lived it up and got lovely shots of mother, father and kiddos.

Mitch and Lindsey bought the one year baby package, but this session was free because they took advantage of our referral program. We’re not kidding, folks: we honor these and love it when people take advantage of saving AND getting heirloom portraits.

We also captured some absolutely stunning belly photos of Lindsey, but these guys are private and have kept those to themselves. Moms: take note. If you would like photos of you in your 7th, 8th or 9th month with a bare belly, we take those all the time. We won’t share them with the world without asking!

Keep your eyes peeled for the blog about their new little girl! She is a living doll.

Eldridge & Wood Family Portraits

We could also call this blog: In the land of men, because there are seven of them in this blended family of eight. Seven men, and one of them is now in the U.S. Navy. This particular photo session was special. We’ve known the Eldridge side for a lonnnnnng while. Stacy Eldridge – mom of FIVE – has been contacting us for portrait sessions since 2010. It seems like a lifetime ago since we photographed her boys leaning against a rusted out pickup truck in their matching white polos.

Now Stacy’s land of men has grown by two more. Her partner Michael Wood and his son Rusty have joined the family. Rusty was set to leave to begin his service in the U.S. Navy so we had to do everything it took to make this photo shoot happen. It was our pleasure of course. We love supporting our service members in any way possible and wanted to get to know him and his dad, Michael a bit better.

The Eldridges are already all over the place with five young men running in different directions and Stacy routinely has a house full of other kids, friends of her boys, neighbors, etc. I frankly don’t know how this full time nurse and mom manages it all. Having everyone in one spot, even for just part of a day, was a big deal.

For this shoot – we ordered up a sunny day – but were dealt a rainy and cold hand. Many thanks to Winding Creek Wedding Venue and Farm – a place we love – for allowing us to meet up for this session. Ultimately, it was the perfect spot for these rugged men, in various stages of growing up, finding themselves, discovering their styles and attitudes for group and individual shots. No two are alike, you know? And isn’t that what makes each family unique? The mix of everyone.

See more of the Eldridge boys from 2010 and 2014, where you can not only see the growth and change, but see why parents hire us for milestones and every couple of years to mark the lives of their kids and family.

the love of parents – portraits of grace in the 21st century

Arnold family outdoor spring peach orchard photos by Pixels On Paper Portrait Photographers photoHow’s that for a grand title? Parenting has been on my mind for a minute: certainly years ago when I realized the sacrifices of my own parents, and absolutely again when becoming a parent myself with Ryan, my partner in all things.

Parenting is a full library. It contains every journal about how to do it, parenting magazines showing it in all its shades, every map of potential adventures with a child, every poem or bit of wisdom from the Kahlil Gibrans, and every scrapbook showcasing the memories of parenting. I imagine rows of volumes about life with a child – in good times and bad, on bikes, on camping trips, in boredom, during downtime, at holidays, recitals, studying, first days of school, and all the random but well-captured calamity that “just happens.” The layers of thought, work, imagination, terror and self-analysis that go into the concept of genetically forming a child and then physically raising that child, while trying to impart and protect them are frankly endless and would fill shelves – and do.

But honestly, especially these days of division and acrimony on cable news 24/7, what is most valuable to me as a new mom of a nearly one year old are the examples and illustrations of parenting with LOVE. I read and seek counsel, believe me – from the doctors and psychologists and from the Bible, but when I have nothing left to metabolize mentally, I return to simply providing love for Finley and looking to my friends, and clients, for proof of it. It’s not over-intellectualized or over-wrought, it’s easy and natural and primal and perfect.

Seeing that love through my lens is restoring me, ya’ll. Thought I’d share.

Listening. Spending time. Including them in preparing for the new baby. Picnics and time together. We’re photographing memories, but we’re also watching our friends and clients be “show up” parents. We’re watching them be present.

Parenting through showing others how to care for the least among us, including adoption dogs.

Parenting through some friendly competition.

And being the protective parents during some much needed downtime.

Anya Parry Newborn Portrait Photography photoOur time with these families gave us some insight into what we might expect with Finley, and looking back at some of the photos I’m reminded about what matters most: sticking together and showing love and grace. Starting at home.

Autumn Family Outdoor Portraits

Autumn in North Carolina is pretty gorgeous and while we’re a little ways out from leaf season (it’s still August for Pete’s sake), it’s good to get a jump on scheduling outdoor portrait sessions for your seniors in high school and for your family.

We love the changing seasons, the shock of cool air, the wool sweaters, the boots and the memories created that AREN’T beach, sea and sand. Get out your calendars, choose your location and clothes and give us a call! We’re ready when you are!

The Parker Family’s Day in the Orchard

Recently, we blogged about a newly engaged couple – Courtney and Cody. They were engaged in this very orchard and on the very same day that we shot photos of the now bride-to-be’s family. The Parkers were all part of the “engagement plan” that allowed Cody to get down on one knee while Courtney was distracted.
This family not only cheered when she said yes, they wanted us to get photos of them as well. It was a gorgeous day, the right occasion and the perfect setting. I love it when a plan comes together!

The Parkers already planned to have us photograph their family portraits in the Tevepaugh peach orchard, and Courtney believed that was why they were all present. After Cody popped the question and got a YES, we were also able to celebrate and get the groom-to-be and family portraits as well. Mom Kim especially wanted to carpe diem because all of the lives of her kids are going in different directions. [Aside: You guys know how this story goes… and it’s why family portraits – from first birthdays to reunions decades later – matter so much.] With Courtney’s engagement, they are gaining another son in Cody; they have a son who is away at college, and the youngest daughter just turned 16 and is now driving and will be the next out of the house. What better time to capture everyone together!Parker Family Pixels On Paper Photography portrait photography photoParker Family Pixels On Paper Photography portrait photography photoWe will have the pleasure of being Courtney and Cody’s wedding photographers in the fall when they tie the knot and we’re already so excited. Between the planning and anticipation, we’re encouraging these two to take time to enjoy all the elements of this chapter of their lives. Courtney is going to be a beautiful bride and these photos below are the proof. Parker Family Pixels On Paper Photography portrait photography photoParker Family Pixels On Paper Photography portrait photography photoMom is happy to have recent portraits of her other two kids as well and we were happy to oblige.
