Introduction to Pixels Graphic Design – Pt. 3

The final leg in our three-legged stool is graphic design. Ryan is not only a photographer, but a skilled graphic designer who’s been helping brands for nearly 2 decades. He’s got IT, if I may say so.

Not only does Ryan create logos for businesses of all sizes, he understands branding and the visual vocabulary that goes along with creating a culture and a fully conceived brand. Some favorites are included in this blog, but if you are an entrepreneur looking for branding help, or a business in need of a brand update, my guy is your guy!

In the process of creating each of these logos and treatments, there was a conversation (think: several) between Ryan and the client to set goals, discuss the business, the target markets, and the best way to represent who they are and what they do through products or services.

We love graphic design, architectural photography and commercial photography whether logo design, brochure design, head shot photos, architectural photography or product shots. At Pixels On Paper we pride ourselves in listening to a broad range of clients and customizing our photography and graphic design services to meet each individual request. Our skills, styles, and visions come together to be a permanent record that either reflects an identity or delivers a message that speaks to thousands. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your business needs. Graphic Design fun

We’ve grown Pixels’ portfolio of offerings as we’ve continued to calibrate our lives over the last few years. We’ve shaped our lives, as you all have, to new normals and even newer normals, all while we try to rear a toddler, adjust our time management techniques and add new skill sets.

As you all know, Ryan is our graphic designer – as well as my husband, baby-daddy, and wonderful photographer. Recently, he’s been updating some design applications for existing graphic design clients and adding dynamism to the designs he’s created already.

A year ago, he worked on a project for our client in Asheville at the Words Communications by rebranding her business with a new logo treatment. Most recently, he added several animated gif concepts.

For general branding promotions
For targeting those who need a blogger
For those who need help targeting & segmenting their customers

Several years ago, Ryan developed a branding logo for Fionix Consulting that they loved, and recently added an animated gif to their graphic design and branding mix.

I love sharing these new additions to our services at Pixels. We are professionals who capture milestones and create heirlooms, but we are also hungry creative types, always looking for ways to help our corporate, entrepreneurial and commercial clients. Pixels on Paper – An Intro

“Please allow me to introduce myself.” A great Rolling Stones song begins that way and I’m running with it. The doldrums of January and February need tweaking into shape.

The more I watch the world shift and watch social media bind us together (and tear us apart ….), I see how some of us are working to find each other – maybe even find each other again – through simple introductions. Introductions are a beautiful thing. So consider this a brief online How Do You Do.

For those of you who may not know, there we are – on our wedding day in fact, August 2, 2003. Ryan Case is my husband, my best friend, my houseman, my baby-daddy, my darling, my co-conspirator and the man I run this business with. Pixels was born of shared interests and talents and a desire to work for myself. Want to know a little more about what fuels us? Here you go!

Ryan is a fabulous and skilled photographer, graphic designer and work horse. Great with tools, remodeling our century old house, and not at all shabby in the kitchen, he’s a keeper. I am a photographer, book lover, soft touch, explorer of moods and lighting, gardener, and always down for a newborn baby portrait session, and a nap (in no particular order). I believe in prayer and outdoor concerts.

Together, we are Pixels on Paper Photography and Graphic Design and have been since 2005. We love to work and play, travel and camp. We celebrate creativity, sound and music (c’mon MERLEFEST!!), families and their specific milestones and we are dedicated to being a part of our community.

In 2015, we threw a big 10th Anniversary Party with friends and family, something that we were unable to do in 2020 for our 15th. But we’ve been so pleased that over the last 15 years, our business has grown and changed.

Newborns and One Year Packages

For parents-to-be, the one year package allows us to capture images during the first two weeks, at 6 months and the first birthday portraits. These have become our favorites and families love them too. That first year flies by.

Families

From Day in the Life sessions to family reunions to gatherings to mark special occasions, we embrace family photography. I would encourage you to search our blog under family to see the breadth of our work over the years.

Commercial Work

We cover the commercial side of photography as well as the more personal and Ryan handles graphic design too. We love supporting small businesses and local ventures.

Personal Growth

The addition of our son Finley changed so much for us and if you need a fix of cute pics of a pretty adorable ginger, follow us on social media. This little boy manages to keep us young.

More than anything, our goal is to capture forever those moments in our own lives, the moments in the life of a business, a community, and those fleeting moments in a family. As our business has changed (we only do very special requested weddings these days), these values continue to be a guiding light. If you have a milestone or just a notion for a photo shoot and would like to discuss it, we would be honored. We’re always for a bigger party, a full table and lots of connections.

We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs newborn and baby portraits,  engagements and portraits  of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

A New Client Logo

A pal of ours decided to rebrand her 6 year old marketing business and reached out to Pixels for some inspiration and a logo design. She is a brander, copywriter, strategist, blogger and calls us “family.” We love her too. We were her first clients and go way back, so the “heck yeah, we’ll take a crack at it” came fast and furious.

Ryan worked to understand the original brand and what she wanted and because they’d worked together in the past, some of it was easy and some of it was a game of Getting to Know You. She loves Mad Men, the way embossing creates a sense of “appearance out of nowhere”, Art Deco, a variety of movie production house logos, and Pre-Raphaelite painters. NO problem.

She has been using orange and blue and loves that combo, so Ryan worked on tweaking those. The Focus Features intro is a favorite as well, so that was taken into consideration.

There will be more to come as she puts her new brand in motion, orders business cards, re-releases her website and further animates the dynamic gif that Ryan created by adding sound. Stay tuned for that. She has asked that we withhold the gif for now, but did share her feedback about the process.

Ryan did exactly what I try to do with my clients: he listened. He sifted through a mountain of disparate thoughts and idiotic spasms/requests and gave me something way better than I imagined.
I’m beyond thrilled.
It pays off to have such talented friends.

That’s enough for us!
If you have a branding or graphic design conundrum, project or need, we hope you’ll contact us.

15 Years of Pixels On Paper – Pt. 3 – And Here We Are

During the last 15 years, we have gained so much. That is perhaps my greatest understatement to date. From double-booking weddings for most summer weekends, to adding commercial and business photography, incorporating graphic design and branding services, we just kept growing.

5 years ago we were asked to be Official Photographers at MerleFest and have been there every year except 2020. We really missed that event and our fellow photogs this year, but know we’ll all be back.

In 2015, we held a BIG party to celebrate and show our gratitude to friends, family and clients. We’ve been blessed beyond measure and believe me, we know it.

We have also gained so much personally. Ryan and I became parents since our 10th Anniversary party, and Finley changed more than just our work schedules. He’s our first thought when we make big decisions in business and at home.

After Finley was born, we re-prioritized nearly everything and realized that our schedule of weddings was going to be hard to maintain. The climate was shifting to trends of do-it-yourself with your iPhone or hire a family member or non-professional to handle it, but for us it was also the sheer number of weddings we were asked to photograph.

Ryan and I were keen to be present for raising our kid. That was the deciding factor. Moving forward, we will still photograph weddings, but they are on a case-by-case basis and are few and far between. Our focus now is on family portraits, the occasional community event, newborn portraits, outdoor photography and Day in the Life documentary portrait sessions. And of course, graphic design and commercial work continue to be a staple.

Only occasionally do I wish for a crystal ball, as we call it a wrap on 15 years and prepare for the next 15. My faith leads me to work on my patience and being present for Ryan, Finley, our family and ways to be better as a human and better as a photographer. There aren’t enough words to express how amazed I am that 15 years have passed and how grateful I am for what each one has taught me. Thank you to all of you who have supported us and continue to. We’re here! It’s a weird world right now, but we’re still at it. Happy Anniversary to Pixels and
… much love to you all,
Misty & Ryan
