Meade Family Outdoor Family Portrait Photos

It’s hard NOT to get sentimental writing a blog about this family. For starters, we’ve been taking pictures of them for over a decade. Secondly, we love them. They are friends that go into the True Blue category.

We took these images at Blue Ridge Mountain Club in Blowing Rock where the views and weather rarely disappoint. We go way back with these guys, as you’ll see in the image blocks below with dates attached. They are so photogenic and I love looking back to see how much kids Slater and Alarie have grown. Documenting their lives has been a pleasure and each photo shoot is way more Good Time than Work Time.

Slater is a Junior PGA Golfer, which is mind-blowing to me. The boy’s got skills! But it’s watching him play with my son Finley, really taking the time to create a bond with him that touches me. I’ve said it many times: great parents make great kids. The Meade’s are proof.

Mom Carisa is and has been a wonderful friend to me. I remember bringing my son Finley home, with all the emotions attached to those first weeks, and there was Carisa with dinner and outstretched arms. She wanted to snuggle a newborn as much as I needed to get a bit of peace and reassurance.

Husband, dad and man of a million smiles Bradley owns MBI Builders and has contracted with Pixels on Paper to capture images of the amazing work MBI does. To see more of those images, check out our Commercial category.

Alarie is a lively little sprite – ready to run, laugh and plays softball like a champ. Watch out for her pitch! I don’t want time to hurry, but I am excited to see what this girl becomes as she grows into a young woman.

I would be no kind of entrepreneur if I didn’t mention that we offer an extra service for those clients who want to create a wall in their home with images that Pixels has taken. We don’t make you download from a site, or spend hours in the cloud, only to have to sort out sizing and framing. People are too busy and we consider it part of doing what we do best: creating heirlooms and memories. For the Meade’s, this wall is in their staircase and seeing it fill up does my heart good.

Needless to say, I look forward to many more photo sessions with this wonderful family in the years ahead.

Gavin is Four – An Outdoor Portrait Session

Believe it or not, Gavin stopped running, climbing and exploring long enough for us to grab some photos. Oh, and he’s four years old, hence the photo session. He loves being outside. In fact, every single time we’ve photographed this little monkey, we’ve done so out of doors (and occasionally out of breath).

I met his mom Jessica years ago and after we became friends, I shot Gavin’s 6 month portraits (I was 38 weeks pregnant during that shoot), his first birthday cake smash, as well as his 2 year old portraits. Before our eyes, he’s become a little boy.

On April 16th, we all met up at a park, and we brought our 3 year old with us. Those boys (and the rest of us) got filthy playing around, laughed constantly, and marveled at their energy. As you all know, boy and girl dynamics can be different. Girls, even when they are outside, will stick with a plan for the most part and follow directions. Boys love to move, must move. They demand dynamism. Finley and Gavin are text book examples of this. They are free range nuts and I loved to watch them. Perfect weather and setting and happy kids made for a perfect afternoon of photography.

One of the funniest moments was when Jessica, who is a full-time Army Reservist, asked Gavin to come to her and he took off. She is a petite creature, but she means business, and ran after him in wedge heels! She kept calling, “you know you’ll have to stop SOMETIME!!”

By the end of the day, Gavin was so wired, he tore off his shirt and Ryan caught him in action … nothing but a blur. Four year olds should be celebrated. We certainly adore this one.

Styers Family Portraits

We could call this blog “When the Ends Meet and Something Beautiful Happens.” For years, Pixels has been participating in a local fundraiser for a child named Drake. Drake has cystic fibrosis and for the last decade or so we’ve been providing a photo session to the silent auction that raises money for Drake and for cystic fibrosis. There is also a golf tourney to raise money and I encourage any of you who are interested to learn more at Drives Fore Drake. We love to give and are happy to help raise money for a good cause.

Being a part of Drives fore Drake is one side of the story. The other side is that our child Finley has developed a real affection and friendship (we all have actually) with a lady named MarySallie Steyers. She SHOWERS him with attention, humor, and snuggles and was until recently one of the teachers at his Play2Learn. MarySallie just happens to be Drake’s grandmother. So after years of supporting his cause, we were actually able to meet the Drake behind the cause. MarySallie said she wanted a photo session with the entire clan and that’s just what we did!

At the end of 2020, MarySallie, her husband Rick, their children Sallie and Sammy along with their spouses and children all gathered for portraits. We’ve photographed members of this family before, when we met up with Emily VanMeter Styers and part of her clan at the VanMeter family farm. Emily married into the Steyers family and well – let’s just say, it’s a small world.

MarySallie has been so generous with her hugs to Finley (see beginning of blog) that we wanted an image of her with all of her grandkids heaping hugs and love on her. Mission accomplished.

This mom and grandmother knew it was going to be difficult getting everyone together so she and I have been planning a portrait gallery for her home not only with these images, but with others we’ve taken of their family in groupings. I cannot wait to see it completed.

Not only did Finley have his photo taken with MarySallie, he took a few of his own with his camera.

Easter and Mother’s Day are coming up, gang. What mom wants more than anything besides time with you are photographs. So let’s talk!

Rusty and McKenzie

Why not celebrate your first wedding anniversary wandering outside during another family photo session? Exactly! And that’s just what we were able to do with Rusty and McKenzie.

We recently photographed Rusty and McKenzie Wood while photographing them with their immediate and extended family. While we were all out and gathered, and when we learned that Rusty and McKenzie were about to celebrate one year together. They were so cute and I’m glad we were able to pull them away.

These two are so cute together, so chill and relaxed and we loved being able to give them time to themselves to smooch and get some attention. It hasn’t been the easiest year to be newlyweds, so we hope these images can give them a shot in the arm, … so to speak.

Eldridge and Wood Families

We have officially been photographing Stacy Eldridge, her five boys, extended family, and adopted family for a decade. Stacy and her boyfriend Michael have a blended tribe, but Stacy is the force and the anchor. She has help, but this tough lady is the tip of the spear.

We photographed the family first in 2010, again in 2014 and even more recently as these boys were turning into men.

These images were taken at the family farm where we’ve photographed them before, for senior portraits and family shots.

On this day, Michael’s son Rusty and bride McKenzie also joined us. The couple have been married for just a year and we captured images of them separately as well so look for a blog about them in the coming weeks.

Above are images of Stacy’s five boys, 10 years apart. I remember Ryan laying on his back to get the first one in 2010 … all of those cute faces. These guys’ personalities have stayed the same, but they’ve grown up so very much too. At this age, with teenagers and beyond, there is still teasing and rough housing and crude joke telling, but their bond is strong and I see that as one of Stacy’s big triumphs.

Above are Stacy and Michael with Miss P and Aaryn, who they are helping raise. Below are Rusty and McKensie who just celebrated their first anniversary as husband and wife.

Stacy and I have really gotten to know each other over the last 10 years, but my first memory of her is as this seriously amazing single mother of 5 boys. To this day, she never stops. She also works on a chicken farm and is a full-time nurse while raising a family. She and Michael are also helping raise two little girls, Paisley – or Miss P – and Aaryn, whose newborn portraits we shot recently. Stacy has such bandwidth for helping, for encouragement, for no nonsense and for care. The woman is remarkable and I am so proud to know her.
