new addition | newborn cameron

How lucky you are, Cameron. You can’t imagine the love that was surrounding you on this day. They say that newborns are near-sighted and mostly focused on mom’s eyebrows and forehead, so you will indeed have to take my word for what you couldn’t see. Behind my lens, you laid there in complete coziness, but you were not alone. So much of your family’s journey was floating around me. From seeing your mom and dad newly married and in love to capturing that couple with a baby on the way and a new daughter and now you. Your timing was perfect. Welcome!

Even your feet were in love with each other. They kept smooching.

Your sister Madelyn came to the shoot and we’ve photographed her growing up too. While we only see your family a couple of times a year, we always look forward to it. And now here you are. This may not always be the case [Secret: siblings can get on each others nerves, but it usually ends well. Keep that in mind when Madelyn boots you out of her room in 10 years.], but right now, you are the apple of her eye. Your sister adores you.You are a precious being, Cameron and I’m adding my name to the list of fans to go along with your mom, dad and older sister. Come see me again soon, please and take sweet care of yourself. You’re at the very beginning!

We love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. Pixels on Paper photographs, engagements and weddingsbrides, and special events and portraits  of all kinds in our Wilkesboro, NC studio. We would be honored to meet with you, learn about you and your family and be a part of taking special portraits that will become, we hope, family heirlooms.

outdoor orchard portrait sessions

We are blessed to have exclusive access to a favorite orchard where every year, the ground hog comes out of his hole, looks for his shadow and, ……wait, wrong seasonal moment. This is about how Pixels has (yes!) exclusive photography rights to one of the most beautiful orchards in NC. Each year, we photograph generations of families, children, lovely girls in prom gowns, brides, the newly engaged and anyone else in love with spring and light and heirloom photos. We look at the Farmers Almanac, talk to our pals at the orchard, read the tea leaves, say a prayer and then head out. Sort of. But this year will be no different and it’s time to book your orchard session for 2017. NC Mountain Outdoor Family Portrait Photos by Pixels On Paper Photographers photo

This year we’ll be taking portraits from March 11-18th, but dates will ultimately be determined by the weather and when the trees bloom. I’ll save the riff on climate change and how much I love to sled in the winter and just say that this unexpected warm weather may speed the process. Sessions are limited and only available one week per year and these are the dates we think will be the best.

COUPLE OF QUICK NOTES:
+ These sessions will last one hour.
+ We will provide you with unlimited images photographed.
+ Your pre-paid $135 fee reserves your session and is NOT refundable.
+ No digital files or prints are included in this session. All finished images will be available for viewing during your PreView Order session. You can purchase prints or digital files of your choice. Prints start at $12.
+ All orchard sessions are in Wilkes County.
+ For additional details email Misty at mail@pixelsonpaper.net or call 336-990-0080

Merlefest: we’re looking at you, kid

It’s the MOST wonderful tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime of the year!!

Yes, Christmas is actually the title holder, but as professional photographers who love documenting events as much as celebrations and the daily lives of our clients, MerleFest is in second place. Once again, we’re going as Official Photographers and full-time music fans and we’re psyched. This is our third year to get the announcement from them that we’re going to this amazing music festival. Count down is on to one of our absolute favorite and hardest jobs of the year!

Merlefest 2015 for Pixels was spectacular and we walked 12 million steps – give or take. We took some of our favorite event photos including this one of the Avett Brothers.

The Avett Brothers

2016 was even busier as Ryan and I split up visiting stages, shooting various artists and bands and then loading images. A blast! Merlefest this year runs from Thursday, April 27 to Sunday the 30th and we’re already trying to figure out how to store sleep and vitamin C (not possible) and looking forward to the crazy pace. This year will be one of the largest yet as they’re celebrating the event’s 30th year. The lineup this year is amazing. The Avett Brothers will be back, along with Scythian, the Zach Brown Band, Andy May, The Contenders, The Waybacks, the Steep Canyon Rangers and dozens of others. Get your tickets and meet us there!

One January Anniversary ~ celebrate!

pixels on paper charlotte wedding day photographers photo

Bethany & Kevin McCoy 7 years January 23rd

Happy Anniversary to a couple we watched (and photographed!) marry 7 years ago. A winter wedding filled with warmth and love. Sounds trite but it’s true. And if you don’t believe me, here’s 16th century poet Thomas Campion.

Now winter nights enlarge
This number of their hours;
And clouds their storms discharge
Upon the airy towers.
Let now the chimneys blaze
And cups o’erflow with wine,
Let well-tuned words amaze
With harmony divine…

This time doth well dispense
With lovers’ long discourse;
Much speech hath some defense,
Though beauty no remorse.
All do not all things well:
Some measures comely tread,
Some knotted riddles tell,
Some poems smoothly read.

The summer hath his joys,
And winter his delights;
Though love and all his pleasures are but toys
They shorten tedious nights.

Happy Anniversary, Bethany and Kevin!

A Country Club Wedding with Smiles, Dancing & Cigars

We ask our brides and grooms about best and favorite moments, among other things, after their wedding day. Responses range from couple to couple, but with Christine Whitford & Adam Kessell, it was about firsts.
First look at each other during the ceremony.
First kiss after the I Dos.
First moments of greeting and chatting with their guests.

There were tearful moments for all the girls while they were getting ready. Both of Christine’s grandmothers gave her precious family heirlooms, one of which was a bracelet that her late grandfather had given her grandmother.
Christine’s dad cried when he first saw her before walking her down the aisle.

Whitford/Kessell wedding photography by Pixels On Paper Photographers photoChristine was a very enthusiastic bride and lots of fun to work with. Because we photographed a previous wedding where she was a bridesmaid, and shot their unconventional but historically significant engagement photos, she already knew our style and how we work. We already had a great relationship with her and Adam, so we knew it was going to be a blast.

Christine’s cathedral length veil was epic. We did have a few “all hands on deck” moments when the wind picked up though.

The weather was perfect, there were smiles all around and lots of tender moments, joy and laughter (Christine: “we like to think our friends and family are pretty funny!”).

The reception was a party, as it should be. The DJs from Split Second Sound delivered the goods and kept the dance floor hot and all of Christine and Adam’s friends showed off some serious dance moves. The dancing was Christine’s favorite part of the reception she told us and Adam’s was the cigar bar. Ryan enjoyed spending time photographing at the cigar bar as well. There was just FUN in every direction.

Christine: “When we talk about our wedding day, we talk about how great it was to see everyone and just dance and have a good time. It was so nice to see our families blend so well together. It made my heart smile.”

Christine and Adam not only had a beautiful ceremony and killer reception, they are class acts. In lieu of favors, the couple made a donation in everyone’s honor to the animal shelter where they had recently rescued their own pup. Congratulations, you two and nothing but love for you both on the journey ahead!
