commercial prom portraits for Bridal Traditions

Recently we were hired by good friend and fellow wedding aficionado, Kelly of BeYOUtiful Prom Boutique at Bridal Traditions to take some commercial fashion photos for her. We go way back with Kelly and with her amazing business, so we were jazzed to jump in and do our part to help her as she prepares her marketing materials for 2018’s prom season. We photographed model and real junior-prom attendee Stacie Shumate in her actual prom gown purchased from BeYOUtiful Prom. The fashion shoot took place in our outdoor portrait garden at the Pixels’ studio in Wilkesboro. We photographed Stacie’s portraits just three short years ago in the peach orchards and can’t believe how much she has changed in such a short time. It was a pleasure and a treat! Thanks for letting us be a part of your business and life and for letting us watch you grow Stacie.Stacie's outdoor portrait Bridal Traditions prom commerical photography by Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC Photographers photoStacie's outdoor portrait Bridal Traditions prom commerical photography by Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC Photographers photoStacie's outdoor portrait Bridal Traditions prom commerical photography by Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC Photographers photoStacie's outdoor portrait Bridal Traditions prom commerical photography by Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC Photographers photoStacie's outdoor portrait Bridal Traditions prom commerical photography by Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC Photographers photoStacie's outdoor portrait Bridal Traditions prom commerical photography by Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC Photographers photoStacie's outdoor portrait Bridal Traditions prom commerical photography by Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC Photographers photoStacie's outdoor portrait Bridal Traditions prom commerical photography by Pixels On Paper Wilkesboro NC Photographers photoWe love family portraits whether they are set in the studio, the great outdoors, a specific location like the mountains or high country, or on our property in our outdoor portrait garden. spring | such small hands

Spring in Australia begins in September and ends in November.
In India, spring runs from mid February to mid April.
Summer and winter are essentially the only seasons in Iceland – although both are relatively mild.
It’s seasonally spring year round in Uganda – with alternately wet and dry seasons.
And Scotland’s warmest months for the entire year are July and August, our late summer. Like NC, the Scots can experience all 4 seasons in one day. Spring in Scotland? Don’t blink.
And it has been that year here for us.

One of our favorite spring places to shoot. A last minute cold snap took its toll this year.

I look for spring, actually look for it, because even the rain, quick showers in 35 minute spurts in the afternoon (my pals in the deep south attest to this too), signal its coming. Just like daffodils and dogwoods and irises do. When you see blooms like that, and you’ve set your clock to lose an hour, it’s time to store scarves. Maybe.

Spring also reminds me of being a kid. Sometimes it’s remembering riding my bike as hard and fast as I could with my friends. Sometimes it’s laying on my belly and looking at grass so close up that I wondered and worried about every blade and every bug and where everyone in the soil was going. Maybe it’s a reason why I garden.
But spring and new and children go together. I look through photos of kids outside we’ve taken and get excited. This is their time.

Spring will drive by us and wave and we’ll miss it. If you haven’t been out to lay on your stomach looking at bugs, or ridden your bike “no-hands” downhill, or stood an extra 2 minutes at the mailbox smelling the air: do it. It’s worth celebrating because of its very nature and its timing. I sometimes feel like summer, fall and winter take up 11 months and spring lasts only 8 days. No one said I had to be good at math.
Mathis Family Spring outdoor portrait photography photoMy unsolicited recommendation (you’re welcome) is to celebrate the season, your childhood, your children, your friends and neighbors’ kids and breathe it in. I’m doing it myself as we look at yard work as a chore and not a haven for bug adventures and the season as a gearing up for a busy summer.

Another parting little bit from cummings… and it could apply to springtime:

“(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens;only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands”

Spring Orchard Sessions are booking

A very funny Southern columnist – Lewis Grizzard – once penned, “Springtime is the land awakening.”
I know. Hilarious.
Meanwhile, I mention it because it’s true. We see it every year. We know it’s coming and still we are surprised when the smell of the air changes. Things of potential beauty below the soil stretch out. They crack their knuckles and when the time is right, little buds go to the garage – if you will – take a broom to the cobwebs attached to their 10-speed bicycles and get ready to launch like their lives depended on it. And we live for it because it’s fleeting and spectacular and we had ZERO to do with it. How is it somehow possible to feel simultaneously exhilarated by nature when it makes no reference to us whatsoever?
We have exclusive photography rights to one of the largest and most beautiful orchards in North Carolina and we’ve been capturing photos of children, families, couples and countless others over the years during the spring. It’s a heavenly place. Pink blooms dropping onto green grass, lovely thin tree limbs providing not so much shade as inspiration and lots of places to spread props and take images that will last long after the blooms are gone and the fruit arrives.

One of our favorite spots: an extravagantly beautiful orchard in bloom

Maybe our own light and joy are reflected in what we see in places like this, in our beautiful part of the world.
Regardless, we hope you’ll get out in it and we absolutely hope you’ll meet us sometime the week of March 11 – 18th and let us capture you in the spring of 2017. The images will last a lifetime, but you need to schedule now. To book your session, mail@pixelsonpaper.biz.

outdoor orchard portrait sessions

We are blessed to have exclusive access to a favorite orchard where every year, the ground hog comes out of his hole, looks for his shadow and, ……wait, wrong seasonal moment. This is about how Pixels has (yes!) exclusive photography rights to one of the most beautiful orchards in NC. Each year, we photograph generations of families, children, lovely girls in prom gowns, brides, the newly engaged and anyone else in love with spring and light and heirloom photos. We look at the Farmers Almanac, talk to our pals at the orchard, read the tea leaves, say a prayer and then head out. Sort of. But this year will be no different and it’s time to book your orchard session for 2017. NC Mountain Outdoor Family Portrait Photos by Pixels On Paper Photographers photo

This year we’ll be taking portraits from March 11-18th, but dates will ultimately be determined by the weather and when the trees bloom. I’ll save the riff on climate change and how much I love to sled in the winter and just say that this unexpected warm weather may speed the process. Sessions are limited and only available one week per year and these are the dates we think will be the best.
